Captain Clutch Derek Jeter is indeed one of the best ever to step foot in the ballpark. Stories of his legendary career will be told to the generations to come, and many will look forward to carrying on his legacy. It’s been over eight years since the iconic shortstop bid farewell to the game, but his popularity hasn’t faded even a bit. Even though there is almost no possibility that Jeter will be back on the diamond wearing the pinstripes, the next Derek Jeter is already in the works. Yes! Grown-up idolizing Jeter, Triple-A player Anthony Volpe is already drawing comparisons to his inspiration, Mr. November. 

Whether he will become the next Jeter is yet to be known. However, his spring training wondrous play has made people sure about him having a great future in the big league. One such person is the Yankees’ pitcher Gerrit Cole. The iconic pitcher recently spoke to the New York Post about the only way 21-year-old Volpe can be compared to Derek Jeter. 

Anthony Volpe, the next Derek Jeter?

The twenty-one-year-old star player is already in talks to get moved up to the big league in the upcoming season. He had gotten himself assigned to double-A prior to the 2022 season. And because of his outstanding play, in only a few months, he got moved up to Triple-A. Volpe has worshipped Jeter from his childhood and continues to do so. Getting compared to him must have been a dream come true and would have surely left him flattered.

Yanks pitcher Cole, while talking about Volpe and his comparisons to Jeter, said, “Gotta be the captain and play for 20 years here if you want to, I think, be compared to Derek Jeter. I’m sure he’s flattered though.”

It has not been many days since the start of the spring training. But more than the active roster, minor league players have already become the buzz of the town.

Talking about his development as a player, Yankees manager Aaron Boone said that Volpe’s progress is something that we all are paying attention to. If he remains consistent with his play, fans might see him on opening day. However, it still remains unknown.
