New York Yankees fans have been stressed in recent weeks with results going against their team. The Bronx Bombers have experienced some truly bad form with Aaron Judge injured. Most recently, fans were left unimpressed as the team’s $424 million ace Gerrit Cole’s antics took center stage. The incident happened during the Yankees’ most recent game against the Seattle Mariners. 

Cole has been the epitome of an ace, with sensational pitching that has helped the Bombers get some good results. But his most recent antics overshadowed his great outing against the Mariners. 

New York Yankees’ ace Gerrit Cole draws criticism for his recent antics

The Yankees played the Mariners in their series opener recently, and star pitcher Gerrit Cole was on the mound. He showed off his skill, with 7.1 innings, 8 strikeouts, and 1 allowed run in a crucial 3-1 victory. But in the 7th inning, he had a showdown with Mariners’ Jose Caballero who was taking his time during the at-bat. In retaliation, Cole threw a really high pitch to warn Caballero. Then, after striking him out, the Yankees’ ace showed his childish side with some unnecessary antics. Jomboy Media shared a video of that moment on Twitter. 

In the Tweet, they said, “Gerrit Cole was frustrated by Jose Caballero’s antics between pitches. Cole responded by throwing his fastest pitch of the night, throwing another one over his head and then jawing at him after striking him out”.

The reactions to Cole’s antics have been mixed. Some fans are fed up with his childish nature. 

Other fans supported him.

But it’s safe to say that his play on the field has been great this year. Furthermore, it has earned him a place among the top names predicted to win the Cy Young Award this year. His play will continue to be crucial as the Yankees miss its captain Aaron Judge through injury. 

On the contrary, Cole earned fans’ respect earlier this year

Earlier this year, Gerrit Cole impressed fans with his response when a reporter asked him about Randy Arozanera’s home run celebration. He called the Rays stars’ celebration predictable and seemed nonchalant about facing him. This attitude and response earned Cole Yankees fans’ respect. But his most recent act on the mound seems to have earned him some criticism.
