Not every story concludes with a happy ending. In the realm of baseball, the 2023 regular season will indeed be known as a dark chapter for the MLB’s ‘winningest’ team, The New York Yankees. Their season started with the World Series winning aspiration, but soon the situation turned against them. There came a time when they couldn’t even qualify for the postseason. While the qualified underdog teams are preparing for the playoffs, The Bronx Bombers are midway a series against The Kansas City Royals. In the second game, lately, the former clinched a winning record that is being labeled “crap”.
Having won 27 World Series Titles, the highest in MLB history, The Yankees couldn’t make it to 2023 October baseball since 2016. However, they are finishing the regular season with a winning record, which is clearly of no significance as per fans.

The Yankees’ season started with lots of hope, but soon a black cloud of disappointment surrounded them. After the playoff doors got shut, the team has been playing their best. They have won their last two series against The Toronto Blue Jays and The Arizona DimondBacks along with their latest win against The Royals with a score of 5-2 on Saturday night. Following this latest victory, the Yankees have achieved a win-loss record of 82-79, thereby extending their impressive 31-season streak of finishing above .500, as reported by Talkin’ Yanks.

Back in 1992, the team marked a win-loss record of 76-86 below .500, and from that year till now, they are maintaining a winning streak. While it may not be a standard MLB record, it stands as the second-longest streak in baseball history and ranks as the third-longest among the top four professional sports leagues in North America.
The proud manager of the team, Aaron Boone, praising the team said, “I’m super pleased with how these guys have shown up and continue to get after it day in and day out in a season that hasn’t been what we expected.” However, fans don’t find it something to celebrate, showing their criticism towards the team for not having performed as per their expectation.
Fans Mocking The Yankees for the Meaningless Celebration
Baseball faithful often celebrate a team’s win. But The Yankees are at a point in the season where any win will not get them to the post season of the World Series. Similarly, the recently clinched winning record was meaningless victory in the eyes of the fans, who took to social media to mock the team.

One fan slammed them by saying, “I’m so tired of the small victory”.
I’m so tired of the “small victory” crap! Why would any franchise, unless you’ve never won A World Series, raise this banner!!! Make changes that insure this isn’t celebrated! @Yankees do better!

Some sarcastically said they have to be happy for these now.
We are now proud of an 82-80 season. Wow. How the mighty have fallen. Sad.

Some marked it as “nothing”.
This means nothing. In fact, it has actually been harmful because it’s used an a mask to cover up postseason failure. The ring is the thing. Not a .500 season, wild card births or anything less.

The winning streak makes it clear that the real fixes are needed within the management and not players. Now only time will tell if The Yankees can bring something impressive to the 2024 season.
