Baseball and Albert Pujols go hand in hand. The 43-year-old is still keeping in touch with his beloved sport, even after withdrawing from active playing. The recently retired slugger is of that rare breed of players that was universally well-liked despite the uniform he wore. After a recent change, Pujols is once again taking up a new role in MLB.
The former LA Angels player currently works with the team behind the scenes as a special assistant under his 10-year personal services contract. Now, instead of a single franchise, he will also work as an assistant in a bigger position.

Having had a career trajectory that is sure to make him a Hall of Fame candidate in his eligibility year, Pujols is a decorated ballplayer who is also beloved by fans. The Commissioner of Baseball, Rob Manfred, on the other hand, is not. Or at least he’s not as popular as the former St. Louis Cardinals player.

“I couldn’t be more excited for this next chapter of my career,” Pujols said in a press release. “Commissioner Manfred and I share the same passion for growing the game in the Dominican Republic and I look forward to seeing what we can accomplish together. I’m also grateful for the opportunity to join the MLB Network family. I’ve been a huge fan since the very beginning and can’t wait to get started.” Fans, certainly, are excited.
Baseball fans are eager to see Pujols in this new position
While many have questioned some of Manfred’s decisions as the man-in-charge since 2015, they expect Pujols to make a change. In fact, many thought he should become commissioner instead of Manfred.

Many found the situation hilarious and compared Pujols to Dwight Schrute from The Office, who had a running joke on the show because he was Assistant to the Regional Manager and not the Assistant Regional Manager.
