Home/MLB

The 2023 MLB off-season is the best time for newbies to all-star-level players to be free agents. This is because of the lack of talent in the market, leading to a bidding war for the best players available. In this environment, legendary baseball agent Scott Boras is dominating the off-season.

Having been an agent for decades, Boras has gathered a massive client base. But this off-season it seems especially amplified as the super agent controls the market. Furthermore, with the limited top players available, he will look to get massive deals done.

Scott Boras controls some of the best players left in what is a very thin off-season market. Cody Bellinger, Blake Snell, Jordan Montgomery and Matt Chapman are some of the top players remaining, all of them are Boras clients. Furthermore, sought after trade targets Corbin Burnes and Dylan Cease are also represented by the legendary agent. It is safe to say that he has a monopoly on the MLB’s top off-season targets.

This may be a reason for the glacial pace at which deals have been done. Boras is known to wait out negotiations for long periods of time, even months. For example, the Bryce Harper deal was completed just days before the 2019 Spring Training began, which is very late compared to past deals of such magnitude.

It would not be surprising if Scott Boras looked to wait out the market this time around as well to secure the best deal possible for his clients. Snell and Bellinger in particular will be in for massive deals after big seasons. It will be interesting to see what kind of deals these 2 superstars get along with his other clients.

Boras has already masterminded some notable deals

Scott Boras has been very busy already this off-season, representing players such as Juan Soto and Lee Jung-Hoo in some massive deals. Furthermore, outside of free agents and trades, the genius agent is also trying to negotiate a new deal for Bryce Harper. This may inadvertently be hurting his other clients. But despite the massive deals he has already negotiated, Boras has his work cut out for him.
