While the players are busy on the field, a whole other game is being played behind the scenes. The agents have become a major part of baseball and one of, if not, the biggest agent is Scott Boras. With players like Bryce Harper and Corey Seager under his wings, Boras has consistently shown his extraordinary acumen as an agent. Who tops the charts in the lineup of his top 5 clients?

In an uncertain sport like baseball where anything can happen, Boras comes the closest to being a permanent factor in getting high salaries for his players. With decades of experience under his belt, his current clients could be one of the best collection of players under an agent.

1. Bryce Harper

The Philadelphia Phillies’ heartbeat and 2x NL MVP, Bryce Harper is the client with whom Boras has broken two records – first in 2010 when a 17-year-old Harper was the first draft and then signed with the Washington Nationals for a record $9.9 million contract. Their journey continued in 2019 when Harper signed the then-richest contract in North American sports history of $330 million for 13 years with the Phillies. That wasn’t the only record Boras broke in 2019.

2. Gerrit Cole

The Cy Young winner Gerrit Cole was the first draft pick in 2012 and got a record bonus of $8 million by the Pittsburgh Pirates. After successful stints in the Pirates and the Houston Astros, Cole finally signed with the New York Yankees in 2019 for a 9-year, $324 million contract, the largest ever for a pitcher to date. Thus, Boras broke two records in one year.

3. Corey Seager

The two-time World Series MVP was advised by Boras during his draft. The shortstop exploded into the scene in 2016 and has won two World Series championships (one with the LA Dodgers and one with the Texas Rangers). In 2021, he signed a 10-year, $325 million contract with the Rangers.

4. Juan Soto

Juan Soto could become the biggest free agent under Scott Boras next year. The Washington Nationals offered the Dominican star $440 million, but both he and Boras declined the offer. They could be looking at an astounding number in 2024. Especially since Soto will earn more than $30 million this year.

5. Cody Bellinger

The former NL MVP Cody Bellinger has seen some of his sheen disappear. But he remains a major free agent, with teams like the Toronto Blue Jays and Chicago Cubs after him. Boras could showcase his magic touch by getting Cody Love a contract that meets his $200 million demand.

Apart from these names, there’s also 2x CY Young award winner Blake Snell who is headed for a huge contract this offseason. With stars of such caliber under Boras, calling him a super agent doesn’t really seem like a hyperbole.
