Yankees legend Alex Rodriguez has never shied away from his feelings. He has openly admitted that therapy helped him. During a recent interview with Dan Le Batard on “The Dan Le Batard Show,” he said that while he felt fortunate to make his millions, negative emotions came with it. When asked about unexpected things that came with money, he said, “Freedom, eyeballs, jealousy, anxiety, about yeah.”
Rodriguez then elaborated on the anxiety that plagued him during his early days in MLB. He revealed, “Why anxiety? Because again, you know, from the age of 10-17, when I became a millionaire and the Mariners made me the number 1 pick in the country and my mother and my sister Suzi negotiated a $1.35 million contract. I didn’t have lessons in life on how to distribute, how to help out my family, who gets what, what to save, what to spend, what to invest in, this is new territory for me.”
This was a refreshing insight into the different aspects of Rodriguez’s early struggles in the MLB. He faced the pressure of expectations and did not know how to handle wealth. But A-Rod has come a long way since then in his ability to manage money while also dealing with jealousy and anxiety.
