Freddie Freeman deserves a nickname—Iron Man! The Los Angeles Dodgers star isn’t a rookie but a veteran who just completed his 13th pro season. It wasn’t an easy season for the 35-year-old, who faced both emotional and physical challenges. His son Maximus, at just three years old, suddenly experienced total body paralysis one day. He was diagnosed with Guillain-Barré syndrome, a rare condition, and had to stay in the ICU. Just like that, the family’s life changed overnight.
Freeman, who played almost 90% + games over three years, had to leave the diamond for what’s more important. Thankfully, because of the right treatment, his son is nursing back to recovery. And with Max, so is the family healing. During the World Series, we saw Freeman’s wife Chelsea and son Charlie root for him the loudest from the stands. And did you know Charlie might just be the reason his dad got the MVP this year? We aren’t kidding!

You might have heard words have power. And it seems Freddie Freeman’s eight-year-old son Charlie might have just manifested the MVP award for him. During a recent podcast, Freeman shared a lovely yet telling moment he had with his son after hitting a home run. Charlie, full of excitement, asked, “Daddy, are you going to be MVP?” Then, Freddie didn’t know better, and as grounded as he is, “It’s been one game.” But well, Charlie’s words came to life—his daddy dearest clenched the MVP.
Where everyone thought it was going to be Ohtani or Judge’s cake, Freeman was the one to get it. Freeman told the story in an episode of New Heights, and it shows words have power. Charlie might have partially manifested this. The rest is all hard work.

Recently, Chelsea Freeman also shared an instance from the kid’s Dodgers room. Charlie, along with the other kids, were watching Game 1 of the World Series. The moment was tense, Charlie had mentioned his mother, given that it was the 10th inning, with two outs and down by a run. But when Freddie Freeman hit that ball, Charlie said, all of them in the room started going nuts. “It was just the coolest moment ever,” said the eight-year-old. Well, even if his age is rather young, Freeman mentioned that Charlie knows everything about baseball, so he gets all fired up! Isn’t that just cute? But well, he wasn’t the only emotional child after that Grand Slam of Freeman’s.

Zachary’s parents, who wanted to keep their son’s last name private, recalled that awesome moment with NBC News recently. They said when the LA Dodgers star hit the ball they knew it would be a home run but had no idea they would catch it. The parent said, “The ball bounced on the seat in front of us and rolled on the ground a little bit. Then I got it.” Well, Nico, Zachary’s father, also talked about his son’s feelings at that time: “He was just crying—the tears streaming down his eyes and a big smile on his face. He had just tears of joy.” Well, Freeman truly is a hero, not just for his son and family but for his fans.
In the days that followed, Zachary was mobbed by fans, all eager to get a picture with the young fan who caught the iconic ball! We hope he gets to meet his hero face-to-face someday!
