Francisco Lindor’s journey to becoming one of Major League Baseball’s premier shortstops is a testament to resilience and determination. Years ago, a 12-year-old boy who had moved from Puerto Rico to Montverde Academy, struggled with the language barrier. Now, after hitting 33 home runs last season and playing a pivotal role in the Mets’ NCLS run, Lindor has become a beloved figure not just in baseball, but across the nation and beyond.
While his career is marked by incredible achievements, Lindor never forgets where he came from. Both Puerto Rico and Montverde are home to him, and he remains deeply committed to giving back to the communities that shaped him. This week, he co-hosted a special event at Montverde Academy—a playball session in collaboration with Gatorade—designed to inspire and engage the next generation of young athletes. The surprise event brought boundless joy to the children, and by the end, it was hard to say who had more fun—the kids or Lindor himself.

Francisco Lindor, reflecting on the playball experience, shared, “I’m always around here trying to help the kids; they are the future.” But Lindor didn’t just speak about the importance of nurturing young talent—he actively embodied it. During the playball session, he was in his element, engaging with 100 enthusiastic kids, offering guidance, and sharing his knowledge. Whether he was giving batting tips or flashing his signature smile, Lindor effortlessly connected with the children, inspiring them both on and off the field.

One unforgettable moment during the session came when the New York Mets pitched to a group of second and third-graders, and 8-year-old Maddie was asked to show her swing. Lindor, clearly impressed by her toy bat cut, took two large steps back, then flashed his signature smile. His playfulness and natural charisma had everyone laughing, making the moment even more special. And speaking of smiles, did you know that Lindor was affectionately called “Mr. Smile” at Montverde Academy?
As much as Lindor holds the academy close to his heart, he has become a source of immense pride for it as well. “He’s everything you would ever hope for from a graduate of this school,” said Jon Hopman, head of the international college preparatory school. For Lindor, success isn’t just measured by his accomplishments in MLB; it’s also about making a lasting impact on his community and inspiring the next generation to dream big.
Francisco Lindor excited for future with Juan Soto in the Mets
At 31, Francisco Lindor is not only focused on his success but is also eager to mentor his new teammate, Juan Soto. As he prepares to team up with Lindor, they have the potential to form one of the most formidable duos in baseball. Lindor is brimming with excitement about the upcoming season. “I was so excited when I heard the news,” Lindor shared. “I’m really looking forward to what the future holds. I’ve got seven more years, so I’ll be with him for a while. I can’t wait to play alongside him and see what we can accomplish together.”

Francisco Lindor is hopeful that his longtime teammate, Pete Alonso, will remain with the Mets and continue to play a key role in strengthening their lineup. “Pete deserves to make the most of this moment because he’s worked so hard,” Lindor said. It’s clear that the Mets are now on the rise as a major contender, and Lindor is excited about what the future holds for the team. However, he also emphasized that Alonso ultimately needs to make the decision that’s best for him. “But wherever he goes, he’ll do great things,” Lindor added.
Off the field, Lindor is all about spreading positivity. “There’s a lot of negativity out there, but I try to focus on the good and keep a smile on my face,” he shared. “I just want to keep being the best version of myself.” But don’t let that smile fool you; when it comes to baseball, Lindor is a force to be reckoned with.
