Farhad Zaidi’s time with the San Francisco Giants came to a sudden standstill as the team opted to part ways with the president of baseball operations after six seasons. He was hired in 2018, and his time with the Giants will likely be remembered as one that just fell short of expectations. Under him, the team made it to the playoffs just once in 2021. It was the year Zaidi was named the MLB executive of the year. But, that was it! Under him, the Giants missed five of his six seasons, leaving all fans and even the franchise disappointed.
So it’s not tough to imagine what happened next: he was replaced. News had cropped up about Buster Posey helping make key negotiations about what happens with free agent Matt Chapman. And it turns out, the team truly did replace Zaidi with Posey. Giants chairman Greg Johnson announced in a statement, “We are looking for someone who can define, direct, and lead this franchise’s baseball philosophy, and we feel that Buster is the perfect fit.” Johnson mentioned he hopes Buster and Bob Melvin will bring the winning days of the team back. However, even after that, Zaidi isn’t keeping any hard feelings towards Buster Posey.

Zaidi was at Foul Territory, and he talked about some of the controversial moments, what went wrong with his time with the Giants, and more. He mentioned that signing big players isn’t that simple. It’s unfortunate, but it can happen to anyone. As far as a thing he would like to change, he said he would have stayed the course on some things. “When I look back, I think there were times when it might have made more sense to stay the course on certain things. Because baseball’s a grind, it’s a long season; we know things even out. And sometimes it’s hard to take your finger off the trigger and just let things play out. But that’s probably one of my biggest lessons.” As far as Buster Posey, he isn’t complaining about his arrival.
Before the Matt Chapman signing, Buster was there helping seal the deal, and Zaidi didn’t mind. “For me, having Buster was a huge asset, just the respect that players have for him. Sometimes players want to talk to players about things. What’s it like to play here? How can we tie the knot on that? I totally enjoyed working with Buster,” said Zaidi at Foul Territory.
Nevertheless, Zaidi did mention that it’s been a difficult couple of months since he parted ways with the Giants. But people have reached out to him, making it feel better for him. “Having people connect, reach out, and see if I was interested in coming on board, that’s been awesome,” said Zaidi. He later also confirmed that the one calling him was the LA Dodgers. They are speaking for a possible role, but Zaidi says he is in no particular hurry.

When Buster Posey joined, he made one thing clear – the Giants needed a shortstop. And voila he did little time to sign Willy Adames to the team. Unlike the previous administration, nothing was kept under wraps. Posey said he would do something, and he did it. This is the transparency fans appreciate and turns out even players love it. Recently, rookie infielder Tyler Fitzerald talked about Buster’s role and how his transparency impressed him.
Tyler Fitzerald in an interview mentioned, “From the first time I talked to Buster this offseason, it’s been full transparency with where he sees me and where he sees the team going. And that’s something that I respect.” Plus, Tyler recalled the time when the team was onboarding Adames. Buster had called Tyler in to fill him in and clear all communication. This isn’t something Zaidi has been known to do. Carlos Correa’s signing is a classic class one can take, where there was no communication with Brandon Crawford. Given that he never played any position other than shortstop, informing him should have been a priority.

Whereas Posey has been a successful player and understands how the players’ minds work. To avoid any miscommunication, he informed Fitzgerald about Adames’ signing. Plus, even talked to Tyler about his future with the team.
