Something that no one expected turns out to be a big surprise for the former Cubs’ star. The major league journey started for Kyle Schwarber in 2015 when he was just 22 years of age. Although he managed to play only a couple of games with the Cubs due to a knee injury, Schwarber remained a leader who made his way back to the mound in five playoff games. But what made him shocked was even more surprising!
The Chicago Cubs won their first World Series Championship title in 2016 after 1908, when Ben Zobrist led the team, winning against the Cleveland Indians by 8-7 in a thrilling game. However, after winning the last World Series title, the Cubs have made big changes to their lineup, removing the winning core, which has taken the former Cubs’ left fielder by surprise. But why is it so?
Well, Kyle Schwarber was thinking that the Chicago Cubs might go with the winning core as it looked like a powerhouse of talent; however, that didn’t happen. Being the team, he got drafted by; it was a pleasant experience as the Cubs won the World Series, and Schwarber thought that the same team would last forever. On March 7, he said on the Foul Territory, “There’s a business side to baseball. I guess it was probably a little bit more shocking after going into ’21 when I was already gone. Everyone’s getting traded, you know. I think that was interesting. I felt the nucleus was still kind of there; they still had a really good team. They had a really good core of guys; I mean, they’re great people, you know, that’s the business side of the game. ”

Kyle Schwarber feels that the Cubs had a really good team, and all of a sudden, after five years, the core gets disassembled. Shocking for everyone, isn’t it? From 2015 to 2018, the Cubs were one of the most dominant teams in Major League Baseball, as they not only made it to the playoffs every season but also won the World Series title. They even made three NLCS appearances, which strengthened their status as a formidable force to reckon with. However, the winning core wasn’t doing much jelp, as the Cubs, after 2017, didn’t make it to the playoffs for five out of six seasons. They went 0-3 in the Wild Card games and struggled consistently, and that might be the reason behind revamping the roster.
While removing the core might not be a great bet, there’s a bright future ahead for the Cubs, right?
The Cubs are looking to make a big comeback in 2025
The 2025 season seems to provide bigger hopes for the Chicago Cubs as well as its fans. Coming after some years of poor performances, the team has finally disassembled its core and is ready to move with a new core, giving hints of a long run in the postseason. Considering the chances of winning the World Series title, the Chicago Cubs have a 7.1% chance, according to the projections made by PECOTA, sitting right behind the Dodgers, Yankees, Braves, and Orioles. However, the Dodgers hold the highest 20.7% of winning, racing ahead of the Atlanta Braves and New York Yankees with 9.7% and 9.0%, respectively. However, there’s still a great chance for the Cubs, right?

One of the major additions by the Cubs is the signing of Kyle Tucker from the Houston Astros, which strengthens their offense production. But that’s not all. The Cubs even signed Ryan Pressly, Eli Morgan, and Matthew Boyd to improve the bullpen while also adding shortstop Matt Shaw to hold on to the third base. With an improved roster, Cubs manager Craig Counsell is hopeful of making a dramatic turnaround in 2025, ending their series drought, giving fans much hope and something to be excited about.
