Alex Bregman is still waiting for his phone to ring—bringing that perfect message—we agree to the terms. But it seems like that call hasn’t come as of yet. That’s because while many others, from Juan Soto to Blake Snell to Corbin Burnes and even Teoscar Hernández are locked in, he still is unsure. And while most fans thought that Houston would jump in the wagon and sign Bregman, that’s still not happened. The reason? Well, the rate that Bregman has set is $200 million.

Moreover, it doesn’t help that the Astros seem to have moved on. Dana Brown told the reporters that talks have stalled with the star. And that they did give the best offer they could. And later the team signed Christian Walker, which many feel is a sign they moved on. They paid Walker a $60 million deal for three years. They did receive backlash for giving away Kyle Tucker, but they also got in Isaac Paredes and Cam Smith. So the chances of an Astros reunion seemed in the not-happening category. But never say never—because former Astros executive Reggie Jackson dropped a big hint suggesting Bregman could be back in Houston!

Are doors to Houston still open for Bregman?

Reggie Jackson on X mentioned, “Good luck, Astros, with signing Alex Bregman. He’s a very important piece. He’s an Astro through and through. He’s a baseball player all the way.” It is true that while Bregman’s number may have dropped, he still is a great player. He is consistent, reliable, and has a stellar career stat record: 272/.366/.483/.848, also 265 doubles, 191 home runs, and 663 RBIs in around 4,832 plate appearances. The Astros could be missing out majorly without him.

Many, like Scott Braun from Foul Territory, feel that ‘it’s just a game of chicken.” Meaning that teams know how good Bregman is, but they just don’t want to commit to him. They might be waiting it out, as many believe, and it’s a tit-for-tat situation where Scott Boras, who keeps teams waiting for his client’s decision, is now facing the same fate. The real bummer is that Alex Bregman could have essentially avoided this pain overall.

Will start to decline after 4 years. 7 years is way too long, even six is worrisome.

Alex Bregman was offered a competitive offer by the Houston Astros, a $156 million, six-year deal—but that seemed too little for him. Now given the market crunch, he might just have to take a lesser deal. Last time Scott Boras’ clients, like Cody Bellinger and Montgomery, also faced the same issue. They waited too long and had to get a lesser deal, but this seems to be happening again. Insiders have warned Bregman about Scott Boras already. Hopefully, he reaches a predicament soon!

Alex Bregman is a game-changing move for Detroit

Imagine Alex Bregman in a Detroit Tigers uniform. All that veteran experience in a young team that is on the rise—a match made in heaven. Former Yankees hitting coach Sean Casey painted this picture on the episode of The Mayor’s Office podcast. He compared Bregman’s potential in the Tigers as a possibility to be what Soto had in the Yankees this time.

Casey mentioned how Juan Soto just elevated his teammates by setting a high standard. And he thinks Bregman can do the same. He can affect the budding stars in the Detroit Tigers like Spencer Torkelson and Riley Greene. “All of a sudden, you bring a guy like Bregman in; he’s an instant leader, instant experience,” Casey mentioned. And for a team that has potential and just needs that lead, Bregman sure does seem like a good nominee with his two WS rings, multiple All-Star nods, a Silver Slugger, and a Gold Glove.

Right now the major concern is the amount of years Alex Bregman is asking for. He is already thirty years old, and players after this start declining. Hence, teams may be apprehensive about giving long contracts. So whether the Detroit Tigers are willing to take that leap of faith remains to be seen. But for sure, if they do, Bregman’s veteran hand could be a game-changer in Motown.
