After four consecutive series victories and a flying start to the 2023 season, the New York Yankees returned to the Bronx with very high expectations. Naturally, after their first game against the Minnesota Twins, these expectations were curbed. But even an 11-2 loss against the Twins at their home ground wasn’t going to stop the massive Yankees fan base from hoping. But they were disappointed again, as their four-series victory streak is about to come to an end.

Anthony Volpe, batting lead-off for the first time in his Major League career, smashed his first big league homer, followed by another home run by captain Aaron Judge, who hit his fifth round trip of the season. Even their rotation star, Nestor Cortes Jr., lived up to his responsibility and conceded only two runs until the end of the seventh inning when he was taken off.

Despite the best efforts of their offense and defense and a safe 3-2 lead at the end of the seventh inning, Yankees reliever Clay Holmes conceded two runs in the eighth inning and allowed a one-run lead for the Twins through Carlos Correa, who batted three runs in from four at-bats.

The Twins’ defense capitalized on that lead and prevented the Yanks from scoring in innings eight and nine, and won their second consecutive game against the mighty Pinstripes.

He said, “It was a pretty special moment that I got to share with the rest of the guys. I don?t think it really sunk in until an inning or two later.?
