Mound visits are an occurrence that pitchers either look forward to or dread. They usually happen during a critical phase of a game or a sticky situation. Most recently, Yankees legend CC Sabathia recalled a mound visit by Joe Girardi in 2010 or 11 that led to a Grand Slam. It was Opening Day and Sabathia had allowed two runners on base. Then-Bronx Bombers skipper Joe Girardi came to the mound and told him to walk the third batter and get Carlos Pena out. This led to the bases being loaded and Pena smashing Sabathia for a Grand Slam. MLB Network shared a video of the pitching legend reciting the story on Twitter. ?

In the video, Sabathia says, ?I think it had to be like 2010 or 11. I?m out there and this is the first inning of Opening Day. We?re in Tampa and I think I get the first two runners on, and here comes Joe running out. He comes running out, I don?t know whose hitting 3rd, maybe it?s Longoria, but uh, Pena is hitting 4th and he?s on deck. And Joe comes running out, he?s like ?we?re gonna walk this guy?, and I?m like ?we?re gonna walk this guy?? He?s like, ?we?re gonna walk this guy, you?re gonna get Pena.? I?m like ?alright?, I mean it?s like the first inning of the first game, like cool. Like it?s game 7 of the World Series, alright. Get up there, first pitch of Pena, Grand Slam.??

Although it must have been a difficult situation at the time, Sabathia considers it a funny story today. The Yankees legend recently enjoyed golf with some top company. But earlier this year, a video of him being hit for a home run went viral.
