A legend in the making; only the name Shohei Ohtani is enough to send shivers down his opponent’s spine. Donning the iconic colors of Japan, the two-way phenom is back to his homeland to represent his country in World Baseball Classic. Fans are on the edge of their seats at the moment, Japan’s pride, the baseball sensation Ohtani steps foot in the ballpark.
Such was the case in last night’s game of team Japan against the Czech Republic when Shotime homered in the top of the first inning. However, the highlight of the game wasn’t his home run, nor was team Japan winning. It was the fans’ reactions after Ohtani’s home run. Fans in the ballpark took a turn with Shotime’s home run ball and clicked pictures with it before returning it to the fan who caught it. It wasn’t something that happens every day, and as the video of it happening reached Twitter, it flattered millions of baseball fans.

Ever since the two-way phenom made his MLB debut, he has captured the heart of millions of baseball fans. No matter if he’s on the mound or the plate, one thing that will happen for sure is he wins the hearts of his fans. Before coming into MLB, Ohtani already had a large enough fanbase in Japan, which has only increased exponentially.

Needless to say, fans on Twitter are mesmerized by how beautifully the Japanese fans handled the situation. While most of them appreciate the Japanese fans, others are saying that something like this happening in America is nearly impossible.

How does Ohtani’s career look like since he entered MLB?
After playing five seasons for the Hokkaidō Nippon-Ham Fighters, Shohei Ohtani entered MLB with his charm on March 29, 2018. He ended his first season with 22 home runs, 61 RBIs, and ten stolen bases. Aside from this, he won Rookie of the Year and joined the legendary Babe Ruth in an elite category of 10 pitching appearances and 20 homers in a season.

All of it was enough to show people that Ohtani is here to stay and has been showing his tremendous skills ever since. He won AL MVP in 2021 and gave Aaron Judge tough competition for 2022’s MVP title. And now, he is once again showing off his skills to the people of his homeland.
