On February 13th 2025, the Padres signed a veteran arm to the rotation, agreeing to a four year, $55 million deal with right-hander Nick Pivetta.
Per multiple sources, the deal includes a $3 million signing bonus, planned with more payouts down the road as well as flexibility to leave early after the 2026 and 2027 seasons. He’d additionally make $1 million in 2025, $19 million in 2026, $14 million in 2027 and $18 million in 2028.

His career spans over many years, given that he spent 4 ½ seasons with the Boston Red Sox and 3 ½ seasons with Philadelphia Phillies. He posted 12 records with a 4.14 ERA across 27 appearances on the mound, inclusive of 26 starts. In more than 145 innings, he rang up 172 batters, along with 36 walks issued.
