The San Diego Padres had a fantastic 2022 season, winning 89 games. They were knocked out of the postseason after making it to the NLCS. The team has made some massive additions this off-season in hopes of winning their first World Series.

The Padres brought in Xander Bogaerts in what was a massive deal for the team. Other than that, they have also filled in some of the other holes with more minor additions. The Padres are amongst the favorites to win it all in 2023. One of their more controversial stars recently made his thoughts on their chances of winning known.

Fernando Tatis Jr. claims that the San Diego Padres will win the World Series

Many consider the San Diego Padres one of the favorites to do well in 2023. Controversial Padres star Fernando Tatis Jr. agrees with these predictions and recently made it known. During the 2023 Padres FanFest event at Petco Park, Tatis was onstage answering questions alongside Manny Machado, Juan Soto, and Xander Bogaerts. They were asked who they would face in the World Series. Tatis Jr. proceeded to say that it wouldn’t matter who they faced, they’d win anyway.  Talkin’ Baseball shared a video of the moment on Twitter.

In the Tweet, they said, “‘Who do you think you’ll face in the World Series?’ Tatis: ‘It doesn’t matter because we still gonna win it all’”. Seeing as how the Padres have a loaded roster, this claim seems more credible.

His statement riled up the fans. Most of them disagreed with what Tatis Jr. said. Some fans even downright trolled the Padres as a team.

Tatis Jr. will miss the first 20 games of the season due to an 80-game ban he received last year. The team will still be fine due to the amount of attacking depth they have. But it will be interesting to see how Tatis Jr.’s return impacts the team.

Why was Fernando Tatis Jr. banned for 80 games?

Fernando Tatis Jr. was suspended for 80 games after testing positive for a banned substance last year. According to MLB.com, Tatis was suspended for “80 games after testing positive for Clostebol, a performance-enhancing substance”.
