Though the New York Mets are having a good season in 2022, they have suffered the most from injuries. Right before the start of the regular season, the Mets had two of the best pitchers in the league by their side, Max Scherzer and Jacob deGrom. But the Buck Showalter-led team faced a serious setback when they lost deGrom to an injury.
Now, they are all set to lose their most experienced pitcher for a few games. Notably, while playing against the St. Louis Cardinals on Wednesday, Scherzer was the starting pitcher for the Mets. And guess what? While pitching from the mound, Scherzer suffered an injury to his left side.

Knowing how valuable Scherzer is for the Mets, this is another major blow for the Buck Showalter-led team. Scherzer took the precaution call at the right time in the ballpark and left the field in the middle of the game.
Max Scherzer believes this is not a major injury
While playing as a starter, Scherzer was pitching the sixth inning of the game. After throwing a slider at Albert Pujols, suddenly, Scherzer felt discomfort on his left side. And he left the field alongside his trainer. Though the severity of the injury is still unknown, Scherzer believes this is not a major strain.
“I don’t think this is a major strain. I was kind of tight, and then all of a sudden it went. But I don’t feel like I really ripped it,” Scherzer said. “I felt like it just kind of got worse. So hopefully I got out of there quick enough to prevent a major, major injury here… Hopefully, I avoided a serious injury.”

The Mets’ ace was wise enough to make the right call in the field. Had he not pulled himself out of the game, his injury could have been worse.

“I just felt a zing on my left side and knew I was done,” Scherzer added. “We don’t know exactly what the injury is, but I’ve never had a left-side injury before. So when I felt it, I knew, ‘There’s no way you can throw another pitch, so just get out of there.”
Scherzer with the Mets
This is the first season for Max Scherzer with the New York Mets. And yet he has become an integral part of the Mets’ squad. Even when not playing from the mound, Scherzer always keeps himself involved in the game from the dugout.
After his injury, fans wished him a quick recovery and make his comeback to the mound as soon as possible.

Scherzer is a generational pitcher. He is one of the most unique personalities in the game and while he pitches for the Mets I still am hoping for his health
