It is special that Rodriguez got to debut the trident, considering he is the Mariners’ franchise star and signed a new deal last year. But this is not the first time that the team is associated with a trident, as it has a special place in Mariners’ history.
The Mariners had an upside-down trident in their logo for the team’s first 10 years
The Seattle Mariners played their first season in 1977. From that year until 1986, they had an upside-down trident as part of their logo. Although fans thought it looked cool, it was removed due to an upside-down trident signifying bad luck. The team then moved away from it and onto a new logo.
