Anthony Rizzo is in trouble. The New York Yankees slugger has loyally given more than a decade to Major League Baseball as a celebrated player. But then came 2023. While slumps are a part of life, no matter what one’s profession, Rizzo’s is getting out of hand.
The 33-year-old has made headlines for his fantastic play in the past but there is another nugget of his life that he always shares with the world. Anthony Rizzo is a cancer survivor and has done everything in his power to make the world a better place. He recently made a similar gesture that was heartwarming in nature, even if it failed to win fans’ hearts.

The Yankees’ first baseman and his non-profit, the Anthony Rizzo Family Foundation, recently hosted another event for cancer patients. It focused on helping families dealing with pediatric cancer, something Rizzo has raised millions for in the past. YES Network shared a tweet with the caption, “Anthony Rizzo and the @RizzoFoundation held a great event this morning for about 28 families dealing with pediatric cancer.” Then came a surprise move.
“We have a surprise for you, a $1000 shopping spree for everyone here, for all the families,” Rizzo says to the cheering crowd. They’re apparently at a grocery store as he says next, “Two and a half minutes on the clock, let’s go!”
“For us, I just hope it’s an escape from reality for all of them, to be able to come here and be with a lot of other families also going through it. Sometimes it’s easy to isolate yourself when tough times are going on. But to have everyone here, to be able to go on a shopping spree through our generous donors throughout the years feels amazing. We just hope everyone has a good time,” he adds later.

However, even though it was a great gesture for suffering families, it did not win sympathy points from many baseball fans, who have started speculating about the reasons for his slump.
Yankees Fans Suspect Injury Concerns Behind Rizzo’s Prolonged Slump
For an athlete, a lack of performance is a frustrating period to go through. This season, while Rizzo is probably the most embittered of all, fans have also had enough. The slugger faced a two-month-long home run drought that he recently ended, thanks to Taylor Swift, but no more improvements have followed.
It’s truly incredible how much worse this Yankees season manages to get everyday
I’m sure tomorrow we will learn Anthony Rizzo has been playing through a Grade 3 concussion and Luis Severino hasn’t been able to feel his thumb for months and just now think it should be addressed

When a dissatisfied fan posted theories on what could be the reason behind the Yankees still keeping Rizzo in the lineup, many others joined in. Interestingly, the Yankees left the first baseman out of the lineup before yesterday’s game, calling it a much-needed break.

And should that turn out to be the case, shame on the players.

Some wondered if the Yankees were lying about Aaron Judge‘s toe injury too.
It probably literally got amputated and we don’t know

Most can’t believe where the season is going right now.
