After making his debut with the Tampa Bay Rays in 2013, Kevin Kiermaier spent the next ten seasons of his MLB career in Tampa. With three Gold Gloves and a Platinum Glove in 2015, Kiermaier became a bankable and consistent option in the outfield. And he proved exactly why when the Toronto Blue Jays took on the Detroit Tigers at home last evening.
After an injury-shortened 2022 season with the Rays, Kiermaier chose to part ways with the Rays and signed a one-year contract with the Blue Jays worth $9 million. And within the first few games of the season, Kevin Kiermaier is already proving his money’s worth.

As the Toronto Blue Jays played their first home game of the season at the renovated Rogers Centre last evening, Kevin Kiermaier proved that he’s already got a lay of his land by stealing a homer in the second innings.
Kiermaier appeared to be tracking the trajectory of Kerry Carpenter’s Statcast-tracked fly ball, which traveled 404 feet and landed slightly left of the “400” mark in the center field.

Trusting the elevation of his potential jump, the star center fielder, like “Spider-Man,”?as lauded by pitcher Alek Manoah, grabbed the ball and stole the homer leaving fans and all his teammates in awe. Notably, the Blue Jays went on to win their home opener 9-3.
Kiermaier, who’s an established and reliable outfielder, spoke about how he’s working on becoming a better offensive player after the game. The three-time Golden Glove winner said,??I?ve been trying to work my butt off and take that next step as an offensive player this year. In the nine-hole, I?m not trying to do too much. I might hit for power every now and then, but my game plan is to get on base for the top of the order. That?s all I want to do. These guys believe in me and they?re bringing out the best in me. I just want to give it right back to everyone.”
How did fans react to Kiermaier’s stunner against the wall?
Without any doubt, fans fell flat after watching Kiermaier steal the homer in the second innings of the game. While some simply fawned over the athleticism involved in taking that catch, others spoke about Kiermaier’s ability in the outfield, and that the Toronto Blue Jays shouldn’t let him go when his contract comes to an end after this season.
This is how fans reacted:
Get used to this Jays fans. Protect him at all costs
