Would you rather watch the United States of America baseball team win the World Baseball Classic or watch the storied New York Yankees lift the World Series trophy after a 14-year-long wait? Now, since it’s officially baseball season and professional baseball is only a few days away, fans were left pondering that same question in mind after star Pinstripes pitcher had to pull out of the World Baseball Classic.

Nestor Cortes Jr., who was really looking forward to the upcoming WBC, and representing the United States of America, had to pull out due to a hamstring injury shortly ahead of Yankees spring training.

The reactions to this injury went in two ways. While some fans directly placed the New York Yankees’ front office in the line of casualty and blamed them for making a selfish decision (despite Cortes being actually injured), other fans approved this decision with the hope of watching a healthy Cortes Jr. before the season commences.

Unhappy Americans, but happy New Yorkers…

Talkin’ Yanks reported that Nestor Cortes Jr. will not be pitching in the WBC. The tweet said, “Nestor Cortes Jr. is no longer pitching for Team USA in the World Baseball Classic.” In the thread, Talkin’ Yanks also added the reason behind his WBC miss, which is a tweaked hamstring.

As reported by Bryan Hoch, Cortes suffered a Grade 2 strain of his right hamstring but is expected to be ready before the commencement of the regular season.

Cortes, while expressing disappointment about not being able to participate in the WBC, said, “I was very excited for [the tournament]; I wanted to represent Team USA. It’s a country that has given me a lot of opportunity to do a lot of stuff that I’m doing today. I’m very disappointed and very sad that I can’t participate.”
