Do you know someone who has built a brand around catching baseball from the stands? Well, if you are an MLB fan, you probably screamed the name—Zack Hample. Well, that guy has been on a mission of collecting balls for years now. It’s his hobby or maybe even his full-time job now. And so when a rumor dropped that he would be banned from MLB games for life, of course, it nearly broke the internet. At least in the MLB verse!
But here is the truth—he hasn’t been banned. Not yet.
So the entire rumor thing started because of what happened during the Tampa Bay Rays and Los Angeles Angels game on Tuesday. So as the ball flew towards the stands, Hample was there—doing what he does best—catching it with his glove. The only problem is that outfielder Christopher Morel might have been able to catch it.

So the Tampa Bay Rays, of course, asked for a review. And for a while, Hample did seem like the villain of the day. But after careful deliberation, the umpires ruled it a clean catch. Paris got the home runs. And the Angels got the lead, and the games went on. The Angels won 4-3, too. But after that, social media blasted the big news—Zack Hample was banned.
There was even a fake MLB statement going around in X. It claimed that there was a lifetime ban. Even though the entire statement itself looked fake and had plenty of errors and typos. Even organizations like Deadspin got fooled. However, finally, Andrew Joseph from For The Win USA Today laid it all out clearly: “ Hample is not banned from MLB ballparks this season.” There has also been no official statement from MLB! And really, why would he be?
Hample, after all these years, knows the rules. He knows where to sit, which balls to catch and leave, and he is sometimes one of the most popular guys in the stands. So no, he might be a polarizing figure, but he won’t be disappearing from the ballparks yet.

Kyren Paris, after the Zack Hample fiasco, proves himself twice
Sure, Kyren Paris made headlines on Tuesday—thanks to Zack Hample. But if there was any doubt about his ability and power, he cleared that up the next day. And all by himself, without any assistance from a glove-toting ballhawk! In the top of the second against the Tampa Bay Rays, Paris launched a no-doubter 375-foot solo shot to the right center. His fourth one this season.

Then just a few innings later, he did it again—Kyren Paris’s fifth home run. And with that, he etched his name in history books. And no, this is not fake news! According to OptaSTATS, he is only the fourth player since 1901 to hit five home runs and steal four bases in the first 10 games of the season. He is also the first American League player to do it. The only other person was Larry Walker, who did it in 1997—that’s 28 years back. Gary Gedus and Lou Brock were also National League guys
Now, before this season, Paris had appeared in 36 big league games. But with his performances, nobody will end up saying, “Kyren who?” He is making a difference, and in a year, hard work does pay off. He is looking every bit the No. 3 prospect the Angels were so hyped about. His bat is hot, his feet are fast, and his name is getting dropped along with the Hall of Famers— what’s not there to be excited about?

The Angels might have dropped Wednesday’s game 5-4. But one thing is for sure: the manager, Ron Washington, is probably not going to take Paris out of the lineup. As for Zack Hample, well, he can’t take the credit—Paris bought all the fireworks this time. Don’t you think?
