Jim Callis shared his thoughts on the current off-season, which has been slow and somewhat boring at times. When he was asked whether Blake Snell would receive discounted offers due to not pitching deep in games, he said no. This did not come as a surprise, considering Snell’s quality, but Callis gave further insight.

During the Exclusive Essentially Sports interview, he said, “Yeah, I don’t think that’s really a factor; I mean, he won the Cy Young Award doing that last year. I mean, he just is what he is. With a couple of exceptions, Gerrit Cole for one, if you get 5 or 6 innings from your starter, you feel pretty good.”

This was enough to give a clear idea of how the top analyst values Snell as a pitcher. But Callis further expanded on his thoughts later in the interview, saying, “I don’t think it affects him because I think whoever signs Blake Snell, you’re hoping that okay, Blake Snell’s going to be good during the season. He’s going to give me 175 innings, maybe 150–170 innings. But then we get to the playoffs; he’s going to be one of my core guys, and Blake Snell can go out there and pitch six innings as hard as he can, and then we’ll go to one of our best relievers.
