During his recent Exclusive EssentiallySports interview, Jim Callis spoke of Alex Rodriguez during his prospect days. This was a true trip down memory lane as the experienced analyst compared A-Rod to Jackson Holliday, MLB’s top ranked prospect today. Callis had nothing but positive words to say about Rodriguez, naming him the best prospect he had ever seen.
During his interview, he said, “Alex Rodriguez actually played a little bit in the big leagues at age 19. Um, and, I’m not saying, I don’t think he’s got Alex Rodriguez’s power. But Alex Rodriguez is probably, I’ve been doing this since 1988, Alex Rodriguez is the best prospect I’ve ever seen. Like, he’s the best.”

While complimenting A-Rod, he also pointed out that Holliday does not have the icon’s power. But Callis did compliment Holliday, saying, “So Jackson Holiday basically went out in his first year and basically had the best first full season or you know moved-advanced as much as he did of anyone I could think of besides A-Rod. So that’s saying something.”
This is a massive endorsement of the 20-year-old Baltimore Orioles youngster who looks set for stardom. Although he did critique Holliday’s power, it may improve with age, and as his physical body develops further.
