Ashley couldn’t shake the excitement as the couple mingled in the buzz of a Dodgers game. Late Wednesday night, as the Los Angeles Dodgers celebrated their World Series victory at Yankee Stadium, Ashley Kelly found herself living out her selfie dream—but not quite as she had imagined. She spotted Derek Jeter on the FOX post-game set in a moment that was equally thrilling and cringe-worthy.

Ashley Kelly recounted her unforgettable experience on the ‘Baseball Isn’t Boring’ podcast, and it was equal parts hilarious and mortifying. “This is absolutely awful, so for sure, going viral,” she laughed, already anticipating the whirlwind that would follow. She painted the scene: “So, I’m walking behind where they’re filming, trying to make eye contact with Derek Jeter, hoping to fulfill my whole full-circle moment. I’m convinced he’s looking at me too, and I’m thinking, ‘Can I get a selfie with you?’ He gives me this nod, and I’m like, ‘Perfect!’”

With her heart racing, she started walking toward him. “But I had no idea they were live,” she continued. “I pop in, ‘Hey, can I get a selfie?’ and suddenly I’m met with this glare from Jeter.” In a moment of sheer spontaneity, she added, “I’m Joe Kelly’s wife!” before snapping the photo, fully unaware of the chaos unfolding around her. Just as quickly as she’d entered the frame, she was pulled away, leaving her standing there in disbelief. “Oh my God,” she recalled, still laughing at the absurdity. She also recalled her viral moment back in with her husband and Derek Jeter.

Ashley Kelly’s unforgettable moment was hilariously validated by a video captured by Kellie Muncy, the wife of Dodgers third baseman Max Muncy. The footage, shared on their Instagram Stories, showed Ashley sneaking up behind the FOX post-game set, her excitement palpable as she tried to get Derek Jeter’s attention.  

On the podcast, Ashley explained her unintentional chaos. “I didn’t mean to cause a stir!” she laughed, recalling how she’d asked the staff if they remembered when Jeter and her husband, Joe Kelly, took that famous selfie back in Boston during his retirement ceremony. “That day, I went viral for saying I wanted to marry Jeter when I was 12.”

Her humor shone through as she added, “Instead, I married the guy who took a selfie with him!” The staff immediately connected the dots, chuckling at the serendipity of it all. Now, Ashley not only has her own selfie with Jeter but also a wild World Series story to share. Not too bad, Ashley. She actually did a full circle moment with Jeter as with this clip now in the internet’s hand, however, there is always a possibility she might go viral again!
