The New York Yankees were warned this off-season, and they paid no heed. Now they are facing their worst nightmare! Time and again, fans and insiders told them to pay attention to their third base. There was a huge gap, with Juan Soto off to their crosstown rivals.
However, after building a solid, well-rounded team, the Yankees sought to look inwards. They wanted to depend on DJ LeMaheiu for the role. The player who played just 67 games last season is 36 years old. And well, that didn’t turn out too well because he just injured his calf and now is nowhere close to starting in third.
Joel Sherman had pitched a name—Jose Iglesias. For him, getting the player would address the Yankees’ weak third-base issue. But alas, the Padres just stole him from under their nose.
