Aaron Judge is now known as the sixteenth captain of the New York Yankees. As a player, he has set new records in not only franchise history but MLB history as well. Unanimously voted AL Rookie of the Year in 2017, there is no doubt about Judge’s talents on the diamond. But one of the most famous plays All-Rise is known for is his home run record.

Roger Maris held the record for the single-season home runs at 61 for 61 years. However, in 2022, Judge broke the record and set a new one at 62. It was a historic moment that baseball fans are still talking about. It was a delight to see the 61st home run itself, which some sportscasters called. And recently, renowned sportscaster Michael Kay talked about what it was like to call some of the biggest home runs in the captain’s career.

Sportscasters have a serious job when it comes to keeping people entertained. But in addition to their lively commentary, sometimes they predict some plays in the game. And Kay is popular for his home run calls because they usually tend to come true. He called out three major runs in Judge’s career that turned out homers, and Kay recently talked about that experience.

The podcast “4 Train Savages” recently chatted with the ESPN broadcaster, where Kay talked about what it’s like being a commentator in the age of social media. “…Those 3 home runs were probably the most stressful. Because now with the advent of social media, which wasn’t around when I said history with an exclamation point, all that…it wasn’t as prevalent then,” Kay said. “Everybody had an opinion. Everybody was gonna critique it, everybody was giving me calls…

To this, Kay’s reaction was to tell them to stop telling him what to call. People were really trying to tell an experienced man how to do his job!

Curt Schilling isn’t exactly popular for his warm personality. But since he has always had beef with journalists, the former Red Sox player didn’t spare Kay. According to him, everyone could see what was happening during the historic moment and Kay shouldn’t have ruined it with commentary.
