Recently, one of Jeter’s most iconic quotes resurfaced, when his sports apparel brand Greatness Wins shared it on Twitter. The message was about greatness and how it depends on hard work. 

In the Tweet, they said, “Greatness is more than ambition. Greatness is putting in the work.” They then quoted Jeter, saying, “As our co-founder @derekjeter said, ‘There may be people who have more talent than you, but there’s no excuse for anyone to work harder than you do.’” This is one of the Yankee great’s most iconic quotes.

In fact, Former WWE CEO Stephanie McMahon has also quoted this line. This mindset is what made Jeter such a legendary player. He was not worried about being less talented, he just wanted to outwork everybody else. The legendary shortstop did that, leading to one of the most consistently great careers in MLB history.

Derek Jeter believed in consistency throughout his career. The New York Yankees legend said that it’s important to show up every day and be ready to play their hardest. This is why he avoided missing games for petty reasons, which allowed him to play great baseball for 20 great years.
