Is Alex Rodriguez's proudest moment with the Yankees enough to heal old wounds with fans?

When it comes to baseball, there is hardly anyone who doesn’t know the iconic Alex Rodriguez. The Dominican took the New York Yankees to great heights and was also a key player in their 2009 World Series win. However, things haven’t always been bright and rosy between the team and Rodriguez; they have a tough history—and some even speculate that the Yankees and Alex didn’t end on a great note! But why?

Back in 2016, Alex Rodriguez was having a hard time, and this is when whispers started circulating that the Yanks were trying to get rid of Rodriguez. Now, after eight years, some fans still bear resentment over this, thinking their icon probably retired early because of the Bronx Bombers playing foul! However, things do not seem as bad as projected; Rodriguez, who is mighty active on Instagram, recently shared an emotional post ahead of him making his way to the Old Timer’s Day in the Bronx.

This is his first invitation to the day after retiring in 2016. While not everyone will be present, Rodriguez sure will, along with Derek Jeter, Hideki Matsui, and more! Elevating the anticipation surrounding his appearance, Alex even shared a video on Instagram to commemorate the beautiful bygone days—a highlight from the ultimate moments of Game 6.

The Dominican can be seen with Mariano Rivera, all smiling and gleaming with joy. On the video, a text keeps flashing: ‘What’s a memory that’s burned in your mind forever?” Then, the video cuts to the next scene when Rivera is pitching the last inning of the game and the New York Yankees finally win the game at a whopping 7-3! Alex Rodriguez captioned the video, “Can’t believe it’s been 15 years since this game in 2009, one of the proudest moments of my life. Excited to celebrate with the gang this weekend.”

In 2009, the Yankees were on fire and won 103 games for the postseason. They went on to scurry past the Minnesota Twins, defeating them in the AL Division Series. Then, the team won the AL Championship Series against the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. Their epic season ended with a 4-2 win over the Phillies in the World Series, making it a year to remember for the Bronx Bombers.

The show is available in both audio and video formats and has had some of the biggest names of the sport, from Derek Jeter to Maria Sharapova, and recently, had Billie Jean King on the show. When talking to PEOPLE magazine, Rodriguez said, “The way that we see the world, at least my thesis is, is that growing up we had the three major sports: baseball, basketball, football. I think today the fourth sport — and probably as popular as any of them —  is the business of sports and media.”

Alex Rodriguez is someone who always wants to learn more, and this show was the perfect opportunity for him to sponge in all that knowledge. Jason Kelly, his co-host, said, “He asks a ton of questions, even off-set, which is one of the reasons we decided to do the show. I think I underestimated how massive his ambition is for this part of his life and business career. Even in an era where former athletes are building businesses, few are trying to build empires.”
