Elly De La Cruz, known as the fastest man in the world, has fallen from grace. Popularly celebrated for his lightning speed and numerous records, Cruz’s recent hit turned into a devastating incident in Saturday’s Cincinnati Reds and the St. Louis Cardinals’ game, allowing one of his teammates to exit the game.?
Accidents and injuries are part of sports. Players often get injured on the field, either undergoing a short or long-term exit from the game. However, Reds and Cardinals’ fans witnessed a rare scene of game delay caused by a “pretty nasty blow” at Great American Ball Park.?
Besides Devastating Injury, the Cincinnati Reds Got Another Blow From Cardinals

The Saturday game was the one of the worst for the Reds. While in the pre-game warmup alongside his teammates, the third-baseman Noelvi Marte got hit by the ball thrown by Elly De La Cruz. It caused his nose to fill with blood, immediately receiving coaches and athletic trainer’s attention.

Cruz is the ‘self-acclaimed fastest man in the world,‘ but he is not the only one responsible for this mishap. Marte was not fully ready to take the ball as he was chatting with another teammate, Tyler Stephenson.
While walking in from the bullpen, Reds rookie starter Carson Spiers explained the whole incident. “I actually heard the ball hit Marte in the mouth, or the nose or wherever it got him.”
Giving details on how the incident looked from a third eye, Reds’ manager David Bell said, ?That was just scary. “After leaving the field Marte was diagnosed with facial contusion.
To which, David continued, “He?s going to be fine. We don?t know how quickly he?ll be back in the lineup. He got tested out as a precaution…It was a pretty nasty blow.?
Reds third baseman’s leaving the game required the team to reset their lineup. As a result, the game started 5 minutes later than the scheduled time. In surprising turn of events, they lost it against the Cardinals 4-3. This incident has garnered mixed reactions from the fans.
Angry Fans Blamed And Mocked Noelvi Marte
Cruz and Marte incident along with the game delay, made fans burst out on the rookie. Cincinnati fans used mockery and sarcasm to express their frustration after the incident reached masses.
Some questioned how one player’s getting hit in the face can delay a game, “That delayed the whole game because one guy got hit in the face?”
Some mocked him as a rookie: “Pshhhh. Rookies haha”
A few said these are just things that happen in little leagues, “Little league stuff”

Some fans went more brutal, saying he is not fit to play baseball if he left a game for such an injury, “Bro go play hockey and you?ll be made fun of for years if you left cause of that lol”
Fans didn’t spare Elly De La Cruz. They even mocked him, saying “Now we know De la Cruz can hit something”
