The 2023 World Series means a lot to the Arizona Diamondbacks. It has been over 2 decades since the D-Backs have stepped into the World Series. More than that, what is even more special is that the Fall Class is now being played in Chase Field, the home ground of the Snakes.
As Game 3 progressed, the contenders fought strong with Arizona in a disappointingly low position. With the Texas Rangers leading, Answerbacks have not been able to prove their moniker right. But they are not to be blamed. Could it be the umpires?

It is commendable that 8,030 days have passed since the Diamondbacks’ home field hosted a World Series game. But currently, everything seems volatile, thanks to some poor calls from the umpire. Tweets surfaced displaying the frustration for the same. @AlexDagAZ’s tweet was captioned “This game is 0-0 if this umpire does his job. There is zero justification for something horrifically egregious in the World Series”. With that, though the D-Backs have received some calls, none of them have been close to a 3-run swing. Well, this was just the start.
This game is 0-0 if this umpire does his job.
There is zero justification for something horrifically egregious in the World Series.
It’s not like the #Dbacks haven’t gotten some calls, but none of them have been close to a literal 3-run swing in a tie game.
Unacceptable. https://t.co/h6jcBM5wq9

Umpire Alfonso Marquez found himself facing the brunt owing to his poor strike zone understanding. The instance that primarily highlighted it was in the bottom of the 9th inning. The Diamondbacks were down 3-1 and Catcher Gabriel Moreano stepped to the plate and faced Rangers reliever Jose Leclerc. While Moreano was 2-2 on the fifth pitch that Jose Leclerc threw out of the strike zone. However, home plate umpire Marquez called it a strike.
To err is human, but in baseball, the damage is irreversible. Maybe, that’s why fans are fed up of persistent poor umpire calls and now sternly ask for robot umpires. Moreover, the Texas Rangers pitchers have been stifling the Arizona Diamondbacks, which has sufficiently irritated the home crowd. Having said that, the topic of discussion on social media has been home plate umpire Alfonso Marquez’s disastrous performance.
Here’s What Fans Had To Say About Baseball Umpiring
As the fans’ fury hits immeasurable limits, social media is set ablaze by demands of the fans. Be it asking for bot-umps or savagely criticizing Marquez, the fans have said it all.
One fan ridiculed the umpire’s understanding of the strike zone.
Apparently Alfonso Marquez things the strike zone is only the middle row.
This is ridiculous. He ranks 65th out of 86 umps with 10 more games called in average accuracy. Do better #MLB pic.twitter.com/HByhhaJn1d

Another fan called the fiasco “pathetic and damaging“.
Chaos is your home plate umpire. Absolutely pathetic and damaging to the sport.

Some fans couldn’t have demanded for robot umpires with more vigor.
Already ready for the robo umps. Ridiculous favoring tonight.

The fans’ frustration was not contained at the “Ridiculous” situation that the Ump called for D-Backs.
I was spitting kittens! Some of those calls were absolutely unacceptable. Ridiculous. I give Lovullo a ton of credit for holding it together.

Few fans even called for an investigation for the umpires.
This ump should be investigated
