The NY Yankees are all set to start their 2025 season and with spring season around the corner, a projected team lineup is set for the opening day. Well, the lineup got enough to receive fan’s wrath as one of the most incompatible teams the Yankees have fielded. This offseason, the Yankees were not as active as the Dodgers and relied on a few young bloods this time. The lineup is looking good, but are they capable of getting to the World Series?
The fans don’t think so! They are flooding the social media about why this lineup, if comes true, will be ineffective in getting maximum wins. The major outrage is coming because of the third baseman position where the NY Yankees are yet to find a suitable option. While the time will only answer if this projected lineup holds to the promises, let’s dive into what the lineup looks like and how the fans are reacting to it.

The Yankees’ projected lineup
Well, the Yankees do not have a star-studded lineup similar to what the Dodgers have and they are also yet to find a few designated players for positions like the third base. DJ LeMahieu is there to add experience to the third plate, but his injury-ridden and below-par performance in 2024 is not offering enough confidence for the Yankees. It is still unclear if he will be available for the opening day this season, leaving the Yankees with a few options. Anthony Volpe is a potent option, but he got placed in his staple shortstop position and what’s left for the team? Oswaldo Cabrera! The team kept faith in him to manage the third plate, but could he?

Well, the young lad is full of potential and coming up with 8 HRs and 36 RBIs from 2024. He, though played at 3B last year for the Yankees, is still not a designated third baseman but rather a utility player who has played in all positions till now except a catcher. The fans are left wondering about how this player can offer stability at the third plate. The Yankees could go for Alex Bregman, an established third baseman still available in free agency but cost might be the roadblock here. Well, the team is still looking stable and good compared to last year with enough talents stuffed but fans are thinking otherwise.
Fans are all armed up
Reacting to the projected lineup shared by MLB Network, a fan shared how this lineup is an “85 win team” this year, contrary to the 94 games won by the team last year. A sarcastic take on how the NY Yankees are weak compared to their last year. Well, it cannot be concluded with specific numbers, but the Yankees have the potential to win more, and a star-studded team can’t guarantee on-field results.
Moreover, skeptical about the performance of this lineup, another enthusiast comes up with a hilarious take pointing out how the Yankees are a good team to let the Dodgers win. It shows the fan’s frustration about how the Yankees failed to keep up with the Dodgers this year and might not be good enough on-field as well. The netizen wrote, “Not bad. Go Dodgers!” The Dodgers certainly have one of the most stuffed teams this year, but their on-field performance is yet to be tested. Hence, the Yankees might be as good as the Dodgers on-field.
While the Yankees are at the receiving end for this lineup, not all the fans are against it. One such X user commented that this team still looks better than their last year. They wrote, “This team is better than last year’s and I’ll stand on that.” Well, there are a few names like Juan Soto, who left the Yankees, but getting Cody Bellinger in the middle, Aaron Judge at the right and the young gun Jason Dominguez waiting to burst onto the scene is what makes the Yankees better than the last year.

Another sarcastic comment shared by a fan pointing out the weakness of the Yankees’ lineup in getting maximum home runs. 2 runs per game indicates the lack of depth among the hitter squad this year. For the unversed, the Yankees got a good balance of veterans and rookies with Judge, Dominguez, and Goldschmidt in between. However, the downward form of Goldschmidt and lack of rotation is what kept the fan wondering about the outcome. They wrote, “2 runs per game. Love the pitching though.”

Well, the Yankees desperately need a third baseman and there’s no doubt about it. One user highlighted the same about how the lineup is all good except for a lack of one designated third baseman. The fan pointed out, “Terrrible we need a 3rd base man asap.” While it is too soon to counter Cabrera, having a more experienced one would have done the wonder. Any chance of getting Bregman on the team?
The NY Yankees’ projected lineup can be termed as a moderate team and yes, it’s not something worth what the Bronx Bombers have known all these years. Having said that, the fans still need to wait for the opening day to see the final lineup, and remember the offseason is still on, so any new additions might happen.
