The decision was probably not easy to make, especially with the popularity that Dylan Cease’s beard had! But did the Padres veteran do this to bring back his luck? Going by Cease’s current performance, luck might be his only missing link. With the Padres off to a flying start this year, becoming the first team to reach 10 wins, fans are yet to see the prime Dylan Cease on the field. And now, to bring back his aura, Cease might be reintroducing himself with a new look.
But do you remember the last time you saw him with a close-shave look?
In 2019, the 29-year-old right-hander made his debut with the White Sox. Since then, he has worn a distinctive mustache. It was after he jumped onto the Padres’ ship in 2024, he acquired a full beard. Remember, his All-MLB selection and pitching a no-hitter in 2024 all came with his signature bearded look!

But probably, this season won’t be the same. Because this week, Cease startled fans by cutting off his signature mustache and beard. The Padres slugger, Jackson Merrill, shared the new look on Instagram on Friday. And a lot of his teammates couldn’t be happier. “For the love of God, shave it,” was the reaction utility man Tylar Wade gave.
Why a different Dylan Cease this season, though?

Sadly, we do not have a definite answer there!
He has a terrible 7.98 ERA after giving up an MLB-high 13 earned runs in his first three appearances of 2025. However, despite Cease’s difficulties, the Padres are now leading the stacked NL West division at 10-3 because the other players have been stepping up. And so, with the team in a better position, it is time for Cease to up his game and turn his luck. Probably, that’s where he decided to let go of his facial hair.
What’s your perspective on:
Is Dylan Cease's clean-shaven look a sign of a mid-life crisis or a fresh start?

Bro wants to be a Yankee so bad. Get in line muchacho
— Random (@xitfirst) April 11, 2025
No discussion regarding MLB players’ beards is complete without the Yankees. Their custom of a no-beard policy has always been popular. While that tradition got relaxed recently, the Yankees players are still expected to have a suave look. Now that Cease has his clean look, is he up for a Yankee challenge? Well, the Yankees are reportedly pursuing Cease to bolster their pitching staff.
Maybe this will fix the way he’s been pitching. 🤮
— Juju (@Jujutalksball) April 11, 2025
Will Cease’s new look fix the way he’s been pitching? One fan thinks so. While there is no official statement from Cease, a clean shave might break his dry spell. Remember the Astros’ Josh Reddick? In 2019, he sported a clean look mid-game against the Cleveland Indians. But, unfortunately, that did not turn things around for him. Reddick finished with 0-for-3. Now, only time will tell what awaits Cease.
Everyone looks younger without face fur

While it is debatable if Cease’s new look will bring back his fortune, he surely looks younger. Hopefully, the 29-year-old is also FEELING younger and ready to offer better performance on the field. Although it is a perception that a clean-shaven face signifies youthfulness, fans are just hoping to get him back to his prime. What’s better if this new-look Cease can bring back his 14-11 season from last year?
Looks like baron zemo and winter soldier had a kid
— Carp608 👺 (@nyccarp608) April 11, 2025
Is Cease resembling anyone with his new look? One fan thinks he looks like a procreation of Captain America (The Winter Soldier) and Helmut Zemo. Seems like it’s making sense, no? But, isn’t Cease also resembling Henry Cavill (Superman) from Man of Steel? Also, we couldn’t help but notice that fans are comparing him with superheroes. Exactly what the Padres nation is expecting from him now.

Ahh, mid-life crisis. Bulls-eye with the comment! A man in his early thirties thinks all about his career and his future. We often find them changing their looks and rediscovering themselves. Relatable for Dylan Cease, eh? While reportedly having the option to choose between the Padres and Yankees, he might be trying to cope with his mid-life crisis, too. We relate to you, Dylan!
Now, with a new look, leaving behind his rough start, it is time to focus on the next game against the Rockies. And with the team in a better position, all eyes will be on the new Cease.
