Things got really heated up at Globe Life Field on Friday. In the midst of the Houston Astros and Texas Rangers battle, Game 5 witnessed a dramatic episode take place. The gravity of the situation was such that it had benches clear. One could sense the anger rise as the Astros manager who gripped his hat and threw it!

What started as a feud between the Rangers outfielder and the Astros reliever turned into a foul altercation which called for the 74-year-old’s intervention. But this did not pan out well for the 3 parties involved as the umpires took a call in response to the Astros mastermind’s unflinching bearing.

In the bottom of the eighth inning, Bryan Abreu struck Adolis García with a 98.9 mile per hour fastball on his left arm, after the batter had earlier put Texas ahead 4-2 with a three-run hit. Naturally, with two fierce rivals engaged, both benches cleared right away. Without a bout of doubt, García turned and confronted Martín Maldonado, pushing the Astros catcher.

Following a long delay, it was declared that Abreu had been given a dismissal from the game because the hit by pitch was allegedly deliberate. This sparked an angry outburst from Astros manager Dusty Baker, who was also ejected. But this was not an easy one. It was followed by an intense argument with the umpires. Soon enough, García was also booted off.

This whole brawl resulted in the benches to empty after the slugger’s game-winning home run for two innings. Baker reluctantly complied, but later went on to share his thoughts on what happened.

He said, “How do you prove intent?” That’s what I don’t understand. I haven’t been that mad in a long time. And I don’t usually get mad about nothing. So I’m just glad that we won the game, and it turned out right for us”. Houston went on to beat Texas in a 5-4 victory with a lead of 3-2 in the series. But how did the Astros end up clinching the game?

With the strange turn of events during the game, the Astros took advantage of the charged-up atmosphere of the ballpark. Jose Altuve scored the game-winning three runs. The start of the ninth inning saw pinch hitters Yainer Diaz and Jon Singleton too reach base. While some Astros folks suffered, the others filled in for them simply with a victory. What a classy way to fight back!

Dusty Baker’s Game 5 Tussle Outcomes

Later, Garcia owned up to what happened on the diamond. Upon being asked about why he turned toward Martín Maldonado, he explained,” It was just the heat of the moment. I just reacted to being hit by the pitch. I just reacted towards him as soon as I felt the hit. It was just a thing that happened in that instant”.
