Pete Alonso’s home address for 2025 is still unknown! Because Pete, along with Scott Boras, doesn’t seem to want to bat an eye on any other deal than what they want – a whopping $200 million. However, no one seems ready to pay up, not even the New York Mets. And while in the beginning it just seemed like a game of chicken, right now it looks like the Mets might be seriously considering moving on from him. Sure, Pete Alonso is a fan favorite, a homegrown talent, but they have offered how much they could. They had offered him back in 2023 a $158 million offer, and he had rejected it. Things now have changed!
Now with Juan Soto as a powerful bat in the team, along with the crunch in the market for first basemen, it seems unlikely that Alonso would get paid how much he wants. So naturally, you might think Pete Alonso is probably regretting his decision and wants to get the next offer by the Mets. However, in yet another shocking move, he rejected a $68-$70 million deal for three years by the Mets, as per Joel Sherman from the New York Post. And this has triggered fans. Many want Alonso gone, and even Jake Brown gave Alonso a reality check!

Now the New York Mets fans are divided. Some fans are pro Alonso and want the team to re-sign him. Some aren’t in favor. Because now they have Soto, and the Mets have spent almost $919 million this off-season. Having the richest owner, like Steve Cohen, means they can easily afford to sign one of the cornerstones. Comments like ‘cheap Stearns’ have flocked to social media, but Jake Brown dismissed it. He instead mentioned, Stearns in fact gave everyone the most fun team.
I’m seeing a lot of this and I could not disagree more.
The Mets gave Pete chances to come back. 7 year offer he said no. Switched agents to Boras. They then offered him ~$23M a year for 3 years…more than Gold Glove winner Christian Walker got & he said no. This all coming off… https://t.co/LZwtgJ2skt

According to Brown, Pete Alonso was already getting offered more than the Gold Glove winner Christian Walker, yet he said no. Also, for Brown, the fact that Pete Alonso wants to get paid like Freeman isn’t right. He mentioned that Freeman is a way better player. And well, Pete Alonso’s declining performance last season, doesn’t give a chance to argue that as well. Plus, Brown understands that Pete Alonso has emotional ties with the team, but to overpay out of emotion isn’t a smart business decision.
For him, Stearns doesn’t view Polar Bear as the face of the franchise, so they won’t make an emotional decision. “They don’t view Pete as a leader or face of the franchise or someone they NEED badly in that clubhouse. This is Lindor’s team, not Pete’s. Pete was an incredible Met…he’s not Seaver, Piazza, or Wright. Those guys were part of pennant/World Series teams.” For Brown, the Mets have the GM, the manager, and two top hitters, so they should just trust the process and move on.
Jon Heyman confirms the Mets are moving on from Pete Alonso
Jon Heyman of the New York Post has been keeping everyone updated about the Pete Alonso situation. He was the one who mentioned the “gap” between the Mets and Alonso. And he updated everyone on the New York Post YouTube show that the gap is still extremely large. Heyman said, “The Mets are looking at other options.” The situation right now for him is all because of the first baseman market not being what it used to be before. And he gave some examples.

According to Jon Heyman, the days when Prince Fielder got $214 million for nine years are long gone. Even Freddie Freeman, who is a Hall of Fame-bound player star, got a $162 million deal. Heyman also mentioned Paul Goldschmidt and that he signed just for $130 million. He locked in for five years with the St. Louis Cardinals. While he said the first baseman market hasn’t tanked, he said, “It’s certainly gone down.”
Surprisingly, it’s not just the New York Mets he rejected! Pete Alonso, as per sportscaster Lee Hamilton, was rejected for a two-year, $50 million deal with the Los Angeles Angels. Hamilton actually slammed Pete to reject the offer when he could have earned around $25 million per season. Things right now don’t look right for Pete Alonso. For a player who has already shown decline and yet is not trying to bend the knee a little, the situation is getting dire.
