The New York Yankees franchise is one of the greatest in Major League Baseball. The Yankees have had some of the greatest legends suit up in pinstripes to play for them. Furthermore, they have won the most World Series titles among all 30 teams. But this has failed to impress Toronto Blue Jays star Vladimir Guerrero Jr. as he has trash-talked the team.

Guerrero Jr. has thrown shade at the Yankees organization multiple times, going as far as to insult them. Despite all of that, a former Yankees captain and legend recently helped the Blue Jays’ star during Spring Training. 

Former New York Yankees captain Don Mattingly helped Vladimir Guerrero Jr. in Spring Training

Despite Vladimir Guerrero Jr’s comments about the New York Yankees, one of the team’s legendary captains helped him in Spring Training. This former captain is none other than Don Mattingly, who recently took up a role as the Toronto Blue Jays bench coach. TV Sports Broadcaster Hazel Mae shared a video of Mattingly helping Guerrero Jr. via Twitter. 

In a Tweet, she said, “More Vladdy Jr. Working with new bench coach Don Mattingly. #BlueJays”. The Blue Jays star has been vocal in his dislike for the New York Yankees more than once. He even stated that he wouldn’t sign with the Yankees even if he was dead.

But Mattingly seems to have put aside what Guerrero Jr. said about the team that he captained. The Yankees legend was shadowing the Blue Jays star and helping him through his training drills. The Blue Jays organization was lucky to add an experienced person like Mattingly to their coaching staff.

Don Mattingly gives the Toronto Blue Jays his valuable experience as a player and manager. He has a calm personality and is great at mentoring young, talented players. Furthermore, he has had success during his time as a manager for the Los Angeles Dodgers and Miami Marlins.
