The New York Yankees may be a historic team with poise and enough pennants for each team roster to have their ring, but as a fanbase, they remain like all others. With the season winding down, the Yankees’ disastrous run in 2023 has been averted from slipping to a losing record as it stands, but the fans are not happy with the team. And they are making no qualms about it either.

With the post-season awards coming up for players, the Bronx Bombers recently announced their submission to the jury for the Roberto Clemente Award. They were usually given out to the player who best represents through character, community involvement & philanthropy. The Pinstripes’ submission, however was the subject of the ire of several angry fans on social media.

New York Yankees Make Their Nomination For The Roberto Clemente Award

The Pinstripes’ have announced 2022 Homerun King, Aaron Judge, as their nominee for the Roberto Clemente Award for his contribution to society with his All Rise Foundation and the work that they have conducted in the community at large.

Started by Aaron Judge, the foundation has set its goals as being the organization to ‘inspire children and youth to become responsible citizens by engaging them in activities that encourage them to reach their unlimited potential‘. Having covered the New York and community through his time in with the franchise, All Rise has certainly made an impact on the larger fanbase and that is what the Bronx Bombers were looking to recognize.

The fans however, had a slightly different take. No doubt in large part down to the dismal Yankees performances this season, the fans’ reactions were more detracting from the experience than adding to it.

Yankees Fans Pile On

The Yankees fanbase is high octane. While fervent support is not uncommon in the Bronx, neither is the criticism that comes when they fail. With a 0.500 record to show for their performances in 2023, the Yankees were not exactly the talk of the town or fully being appreciated by the fanbase.

Despite the season winding down with a small chance of the Yankees succeeding, the fans made it known that this is not the team they see going forward. Some even training their target personally on the Yankees Captain.

Some however, chose to voice their support for the star’s nomination.

Even others had some funnier takes said more in jest than actually meaning to make a point.

Aaron Judge is part of one of the most respected athletes in the League and has on several occasions displayed his class. Whether he wins the award in 2023 remains to be seen but what is sure is that the star definitely deserves all the recognition he is getting.
