What’s the deal with the New York Yankees and players’ appearance? While there has been a great deal of discussion about the no facial hair policy among fans, a new doubt about Marcus Stroman’s look has come up. Are durags allowed on the field?

This question has been doing the rounds since the Yankees penned a deal with the former Chicago Cubs pitcher last week. The right-handed pitcher apart from his All-Star and MVP accolades is known to wear tight-fitting durags under his cap on start days. With him in the Pinstripes, he might be giving up the look.

Sources did mention that this is not something that was discussed. Furthermore, there would not be anything about the same in the contract. The Yankees, having a reputation for promoting uniformity rather than individuality would be making an exception if Stroman appeared on the diamond with the cloth on his head. Has the Yankees’ leadership eased down the rules?

This brings to attention a few instances from the past. The former pitching prospect Luis Medina, used to wear a durag once in a while when he was a part of the Yankees’ minor league system. He then went on to do the same as he entered the big leagues with the Oakland Athletics.

Also, other examples are CC Sabathia’s tilted hat, Luke Voit’s signature unbuttoned jersey, and Gary Sánchez’s headband. Now these are some bold personalized on-field looks. But is it sustainable? That’s a question that will be answered when players appear on the diamond this spring.

The Yankees’ Deal and Durags

Marcus Stroman agreed to a $37 million, two-year deal with the New York Yankees a close source told The Associated Press under the condition of anonymity. Reports say that the deal has been subject to a successful physical and that the agreement is inclusive of a perhaps guaranteed option for 2026.

Stroman posted an IG story of himself in a Yankees uniform. That said, he will set foot in the Yankee stadium with out without the durag this year. Neither the Yanks not Major League Baseball have stringent policies for durags per se. Yet the look has been previously banned in leagues of other sports like the NFL and the NBA. Perhaps, times have changed where durags are more a a fashion accessory than anything else that these stereotypically meant.
