The 2022 season was not the best year for the Boston Red Sox. With one player injured after another, the Red Sox finished last in the American League’s East division. Many believe the disappointing performance may have been caused by a front office change when Chaim Bloom replaced Dave Dombrowski. Yet, it’s undeniable that the players played a key role, and their injuries prevented them from giving it their all, which led some Boston fans to believe that those players were worth trading.
Alex Verdugo was one such name. The outfielder reportedly played with an injured toe for at least the first two months of the 2022 season. Although he did step up his performance by June, it was probably not enough to leave a mark. And now, when the regular season is right around the corner and people are doubting Verdugo’s ability, his brother stepped up to defend him.

Twitter is full of people with an agenda to prove. Some just use the platform to stir people up and cause controversies. There are still some genuine do-gooders but there’s a reason Twitter is famous for its drama. And last night, sports broadcaster Matt McCarthy took a shot at Alex Verdugo. His tweet read, “I?d trade his a*s in a heartbeat.” The quote tweet was made on a post praising Verdugo and his talent, but apparently, McCarthy was not interested.

And Chris Verdugo, who’s active on Twitter where his brother is concerned, lashed out with a scathing reply. Talkin’ Baseball reported the news with screenshots of both tweets.
Verdugo’s reply read, “Hey Boston fans, does it get annoying listening to people on the radio who don?t know what they?re talking about half the time?”
And what did Boston Red Sox fans think of it then?
Alex Verdugo is still relatively new to the big leagues. While he hit three homers, .227 with 10 doubles, and .598 OPS in the first 46 games last season, he still has far to go. Some believe he could make a big breakout if only he put in the extra effort in 2023.
While McCarthy is allowed to have his own opinions, the admittedly very biased Verdugo doesn’t think so. In response to the two’s back and forth, fans shared their own opinions.
I love Dugie..don’t know why people don’t like him. Got a career .341 OBP. Guy knows how to get on base and doesn’t K often. Also has a good arm.
