It seems like the New York Yankees are still making moves this off-season. While most of the trade-offs for players have been made, the Yankees also settled with arbitration-eligible players on the team. Not only that, but going into the 2023 season the Pinstripes also have a captain almost a decade after the last one. When Derek Jeter retired in 2014, the position remained unfulfilled till Aaron Judge filled it last year.
Now it looks like the Bronx team is bringing in new talent in the coaching department. Former major leaguer Brad Wilkerson was just added as an assistant coach and fans are reacting. The former first baseman retired in 2009 but has been active in coaching, leading teams to victory. And now fans are excited to see how the former legend will shape the Bronx Bombers.

Since most of Wilkerson’s career spanned the 2000s decade, people were surprised to hear his name again. The former Blue Jays player has been acting as an assistant coach for Jacksonville University for the last three seasons. The 45-year-old is a former Olympic gold medalist with U.S. team in 2000, but this will be his first time back with the major leagues again.
The official New York Yankees Twitter page announced the new hire.

Josh Donaldson and Aaron Hicks have been getting a lot of heat for poor performance in the last season. While many are hoping for a trade-off, it might not happen in the end. It’s almost February and since spring training is set to start soon, a little too late in the season. Although one never knows what might happen, chances of Hicks and Donaldson getting traded off are slim.
There is also the matter of their contracts – Donaldson is due to be paid $21 million in the upcoming season, while Hicks will earn $10 million. Although the Yankees went to great lengths for catcher James McCann in trading him to the Baltimore Orioles, it’s unlikely to be the same case again.
