Is Tyler Glasnow the key to the Dodgers' postseason success, or are we setting ourselves up for disappointment?

Someone’s back in the game, and it’s none other than Tyler Glasnow, one of the key pitchers for the Los Angeles Dodgers. Glasnow has reassured fans about his health and performance. After facing some early-season setbacks, Glasnow has spoken out, making it clear that he feels ready to contribute when it matters most—the postseason.

Glasnow suffered from tendinitis on his left elbow and was put on the injured list last month. He was placed on a 15-day injured list for the second time. The first time was from back pain. On the day he was placed on IL, Dodgers manager Dave Roberts assured that the MRI showed no structural damage and that he expected Glasnow to return after his 15-day IL stint was up. A pretty confident Tyler spoke to the reporters on Saturday night about his overall health and injury.

The Dodgers had acquired Tyler Glasnow back in December from the Tamba Bay Rays for 5 years in a 136.5 million deal. Glasnow has already surpassed his career bests with 134 innings pitched and 168 strikeouts, posting a 9-6 record with a 3.49 ERA across 22 starts. His medical history is marked by years of elbow trouble, including Tommy John surgery in 2021. He also missed two weeks in July due to back pain. Assuring that he is back for good, he said, “I am confident [about coming back before the end of the regular season]. Definitely. I’m feeling good. As of right now, I feel great. So, I’ll just keep throwing, and I’ll be ready to go.” He added.

Dodgers ace Tyler Glasnow was set to start against the St. Louis Cardinals on Saturday night at Busch Stadium, but his plans changed after he reported elbow discomfort following his Wednesday workout. But if he hadn’t said and played, it could have been much worse, and a 15-day IL stint could have turned into months. Glasnow then felt obligated to the team to tell them, as it could have affected the chances of them winning. Now that he is part of the Dodgers, winning as a team matters to him the most. “We kind of have to think of it as a team.” He said. While Glasnow sure has confidence restored in him, media outlets, on the other hand, had started to lose it during his IL days.

Have an interesting take?

LA manager Dave Roberts’ most recent remarks had fans concerned about October. Tyler Glasnow’s IL was lasting longer than expected. Asking if the right-hander would return to the mound this season, the captain said, “We’re hopeful.” Roberts’ statement is far from the firm answer that supporters of the Dodgers had hoped for. In response to a query about whether Glasnow might pitch through elbow pain, Roberts stated that they want the seasoned player to be pain-free before his recuperation gets any better.

Yoshinobu Yamamoto had been sidelined since June 15 due to triceps difficulties, and River Ryan was placed on the 60-day injured list a few days later due to a forearm ailment. This made Glasnow’s injury particularly unfortunate for LA. Although the Dodgers are still ahead in the National League West, having Glasnow back would undoubtedly ease the Dodgers’ late-season series against the rapidly improving Diamondbacks and Padres. Do you think Glasnow would keep up with the Dodgers’ expectations?
