The Dodgers’ catching prospect seems not to be in a hurry to make it to the big league! Dalton Rushing confirms his main motive to help the Dodgers defend their World Series title, knowing that he will get to play with teammates at some point in 2025. So, is there something that’s stopping him from making his MLB debut? Definitely not! The Dodgers’ young prospect had a great 2024 season with the Triple-A Oklahoma City, where he posted a .273/.396/.511 slash line along with nine homers in 37 games he played. That’s quite impressive, isn’t it, given his age?
Despite his impressive batting performance, Dalton Rushing has not indicated what role he plans to play. However, it looks like he is going to make hits, as far as the news is coming up of the Dodgers playing him as a hitter. So, on February 27, Dalton Rushing, when asked by the Dodgers’ insider Dough McKain about his future role with the Dodgers, spoke up: “From a catching perspective, my job is to step in and make Will’s job easier. Give him a little bit of time. Let him be the player that he is and make a push for the Hall of Fame.”

It’s quite clear that although Dalton Rushing is the Dodgers’ top-catching prospect, he may not play in his actual role as of now. Rushing cleared the air, mentioning that it all comes down to what the team needs, besides helping Will Smith, who can be pushed to make it to the Hall of Fame soon. The two-time All-Star Smith has a contract up to 2033, and with Rushing getting reps in the left field midway, he might not play the outfield this spring.
However, Rushing has accepted that whatever role comes up to him, he will try to do his best, be it opening the season in Japan or its middle of the season when playing in Colorado.
