The New York Yankees are making headlines yet again! This time, they are trying to find a way to compete with the Los Angeles Dodgers. As pointed out by the Yankees’ general manager, Brian Cashman, the Dodgers have managed a strong payroll, and in response, they will try to commit to a stronger payroll as well. The Yankees once demonstrated their strength by demonstrating their financial prowess, and everything they touched turned out to be gold. It was guaranteed that the Yankees would acquire high-priced stars, but this has not been the case lately, including the team’s loss of Yoshinobu Yamamoto and Juan Soto to the Dodgers and New York Mets, respectively.

The current landscape is a lot different for the New York Yankees, who cannot match the spending made by the Los Angeles Dodgers. While the Dodgers’ payroll is estimated to be around $402 million, the Yankees’ payroll is around $304 million; that too, every dollar spent beyond that mark will fetch an additional 110 percent tax. On February 15, when MLB insider Chris Kirschner asked whether the Yankees could compete with the Dodgers, Yankees’ GM Brian Cashman said, “Regardless of financial circumstance, the job is to find a way to compete. Putting together a team, there’s a lot of different avenues to do so, whether it’s financial might, whether it’s amateur draft, international and pro scouting, development, waiver claims, minor leagues, or free agent signings. Ultimately, the Dodgers have raised the bar.”

Cashman went on to add that the Los Angeles Dodgers, being the defending champions and doing lots of things right, had been much behind them. He even mentioned the financial constraints that often caused challenges for them to get some players and even retain players like Juan Soto. So, does it look possible for them to compete? Therefore, Cashman aims to reevaluate everything, figure out how to handle the opposition, and guarantee a healthy payroll, all of which will eventually result in the creation of a top-tier team that the supporters will be proud of. So, what the Yankees are planning ahead?

Yankees’ GM shares his plan to improve the roster

The New York Yankees came off the World Championship Series, losing to the Los Angeles Dodgers, who won the five-game series. Now, amid Brian Cashman’s conformation of the Dodgers’ superiority in terms of spending for the big players, they have made some major additions: first baseman Paul Goldschmidt, closer Devin Williams, outfielder Cody Bellinger, and starting pitcher Max Fried. However, they lost Juan Soto to the New York Mets, which still haunts the team the most, but it doesn’t end here!

What’s your perspective on:

Can the Yankees' new roster additions finally dethrone the Dodgers, or is it just wishful thinking?

Have an interesting take?

Brain Cashman believes that the Yankees’ roster looks a lot better than what it was before, given that they focused on the major gaps, trying to improve their defense, and keeping a more balanced offensive state while trying to make more strikeouts too. The Yankees suffered losses due to their poor defense, and Cashman is hopeful that the new additions will definitely improve their defense and get them into the World Series. However, they still have a lot to do, like giving an opportunity to DJ Lemahieu to prove his worth and get while focusing on Aaron Boone’s contract state.
