The Los Angeles Dodgers are facing quite some heat at the moment! The reason? Well, it has nothing to do with how they performed against the Colorado Rockies. Rather, it is about their game against the Chicago Cubs on Saturday, April 12, where they were handed a 16-0 defeat. Despite being one of the most one-sided games in the 2025 MLB season, what caught attention was the way the Dodgers $11 million star reacted. And in baseball, we all know, there is never a shortage of drama, is there?

During the game, Dodgers infielder Miguel Rojas managed to pitch the final two innings. Everything was going normally until Rojas mocked the baseball with some antic that resembled one of his teammate’s pitching. As expected, his notoriety immediately drew backlash from the fans and, most importantly, a former MLB star.

Miguel Rojas’s intended light-hearted moment swiftly devolved into a point of criticism. The Chicago Cubs were on their way to victory, posting 14 runs in the last three innings. The Dodgers, on the other hand, were already feeling the pressure of the 16-0 loss until the matter turned worse with Rojas’ antics. He tried to inject some humor into the gloomy environment, making some expressions to imitate future Hall of Famer Clayton Kershaw and Dodgers pitcher Roki Sasaki. It was something that the former Boston Red Sox star, Jeff Frye, didn’t find amusing at all, considering it ludicrous and clownish. He said, “I’m sorry but this is embarrassing as a retired @MLB player. I don’t know what’s worse, the imitations or the earrings. Is making a mockery of our national pastime acceptable now as long as the kids are having fun?”

Although some view it as a light-hearted moment to keep the morale high, for Jeff Frye, it was rather a lack of passion and seriousness towards the game. The former MLB star didn’t even stop lambasting him for such inappropriate behavior, and that too when the Dodgers were right on the verge of a lopsided loss. In such moments, what everyone expects is to maintain good composure, calmness, and good leadership, rather than trying to act silly, which Rojas did.

That cannot deny the fact that the Chicago Cubs literally hammered the Dodgers. They were right on the money with Carson Kelly putting on a great show. Firstly, he hit five runs and a home run against Dodgers Ben Casparius and then a massive homer against Miguel Rojas, posting two more runs. How come he then did such a silly act despite the disastrous performance?

Well, the Dodgers’ manager, Dave Roberts, has something to say about the matter. Let’s hear it from what he said.

What’s your perspective on:

Did Miguel Rojas's antics cross the line, or was it just a harmless attempt at humor?

Dodgers manager has his say on the ridiculous incident that took place

Amid all the debate and criticism surrounding the incident, a little bit of humor adds to the excitement. That’s what the Los Angeles Dodgers’ manager, Dave Roberts, did. He didn’t put any blame on Miguel Rojas but rather said, “I guess a little bit of levity in a game like that, I guess, certainly is helpful. He gave us, you know, to be able to throw two innings, which was huge for us. We needed every bit of that.” For Roberts, Rojas throwing two pitches for the team was good enough and Roberts found a bit of humor, not a problem for the team. But that doesn’t end here!

Dave Roberts considered Miguel Rojas’ pitching a rare positive in the game despite the loss. It’s not something new, as Roberts previously also praised his on-field leadership skills and his infield defense has strengthened the lineup. For him, Rojas is someone who always boosts the morale within the team.

However, it is also true that the behaviors of players must align with the values and guidelines of the sports. And as far as the behaviors don’t go beyond that, or even hinder professionalism, a little bit of humor—we all can expect that, right?
