Francisco Lindor has been one of the most consistent players for the New York Mets barring his recent slump from the plate. Bringing what was expected to be a strong defense, the 29-year-old’s performance has left much to be desired lately. Despite boasting some of the most lucrative contracts, the New York Mets have struggled this season. At the most recent game vs the St. Louis Cardinals, Lindor was absent from the lineup, something that hasn’t happened since the start of the month. But unlike when he hurt his fingers on a door last year, this time he had a much better reason.

Lindor just became a dad to his second daughter and stayed up all night to be with his family. And he couldn’t be a more proud girl dad. But given how demanding the Mets fans are, they did not even spare their star player when he missed the game because of his very obvious reason.

The shortstop talked to SNY recently, detailing everything from his performance to fatherhood. He revealed that he actually wanted to play on Saturday, but Buck Showalter wouldn’t let him. After all, his wife gave birth to his daughter in the early hours of the morning, and Lindor only got a few hours of sleep. The manager wanted him to rest up instead of play. Lindor, for his part, is happy to be a father and even congratulated all the moms in the world.

“It’s the best. They’re the future, the future is female,” he added later. The shortstop’s first daughter, Kalina Zoé, turned 2 last November and is now an older sister to Amapola Chloé. Lindor’s wife shared an adorable picture of the two sisters and it looks like it will be a busy time for the parents.

While Showalter said that it’s unlikely Lindor will end up on the paternity list, fans think he could do with some time off. After all, some still had nothing nice to say after the shortstop’s announcement because of his recent performance.

Lindor’s news fails to appease angry New York Mets fans

The Mets lost against the Cardinals on Saturday, bringing their total losses to 7 in the last 10 games. This year, while Lindor has 12 home runs, he has been hitting just .211 with an OBP of .291. Fans are losing hope since Pete Alonso is also on the IL, but Lindor has hope. Nevertheless, baseball Twitter mocked him still.

Some stood up in his defense and asked others to leave Lindor alone.

One even supported his slogan that the future is female.
