The New York Yankees are bringing in the big guns. Or at least, anyone who is available to play against the Atlanta Braves is playing, injury or underperformance no bar. Fans thought the team struggled in the captain’s absence, but even Aaron Judge can’t single-handedly rally a team to success. The rubber game against the Miami Marlins was proof.

The Yankees blew their lead after Cy Young candidate Gerrit Cole pitched a solid game at LoanDepot Park before reliever Clay Holmes struggled to give a similar performance. They lost 8-7 to the Marlins in what could easily have been a victory. Now, the club is bringing another player back from the IL to bring in more power.

The Yankees recently announced that Luis Severino was slated to start against Atlanta on Tuesday, the second of a three-game series. It’s worth noting that the Braves have been playing phenomenally this season, with Matt Olson leading the league with 42 home runs. He has surpassed even Shohei Ohtani, and the rest of the team is no slump either.

Another thing to be noted is that Sevy has given one of the worst performances of his career this summer. Putting the two together seems like a recipe for disaster, but on the other hand, the Yankees are strengthening their bullpen. DJ LeMahieu is set to start on Monday after sitting out the last 4 games because of a calf injury.

Per The New York Post, he could have played against the Marlins in the series finale, but out of precaution, he sat it out. It was just as well because what everyone seems to wonder is whether he would have made a difference. The slugger has not had the best season either, so will his presence make a difference against the NL East-leading Braves?

Before the calf injury derailed him, LeMahieu was hitting .309 with a .824 OPS over his past 23 games. But then he said his calf was bothering him, making him feel like it was “grabbing” him during batting practice. He was sidelined starting last Wednesday, with the Yankees hoping for a quick recovery.

The player was dispirited at missing out on playing time. “It’s just frustrating no matter what,” he told The Post. “I want to be out there. I take pride in being out there.”
