At 0.274 after smashing 32 home runs with 175 hits, Vladimir Guerrero Jr., along with a strong bullpen, carried the Toronto Blue Jays to the wild card round in 2022. Without their star infielder, their presence anywhere near the postseason would be heavily unlikely. And with spring training underway, the Blue Jays have been preparing hard for the upcoming regular season.
When talking about Vlad, prior to the beginning of spring training, the Jays slugger took on the hostile New York Yankees fanbase by claiming that the Bronx Bombers were the easiest opponent in 2023. Now, however, with the recent turn of events, Vlad may not be left in a position to play his “favorite” opponent in the upcoming 2023 season.
Does this mean that Vladimir Guerrero Jr. won’t play in 2023?

In a spring training game against the Tampa Bay Rays, Vladimir Guerrero Jr. was pulled out in the middle of the game after he awkwardly ran to second. In his only plate appearance in the bottom of the first, Guerrero managed a single off Drew Rasmussen. Vladdy’s hit helped Bo Bichette bat one run in. However, ensuing a close play at home, Guerrero uncomfortably ran to second base. After the end of the innings, the star infielder left the field due to trouble in his right knee.

Manager John Schneider commented on his star infielder exiting the game positively. He said, “Right now, we’re just checking it out and seeing how he is. It’s right knee discomfort and we’ll see how he feels tomorrow. We’re playing it safe at this point.”
Schneider continued to talk about the play, but also particularly mentioned that there’s no need to worry: “He kind of awkwardly went into second. We’ll see how he is tomorrow, but we’re not too worried.”
Fans did not hesitate taking a dig at the Blue Jays superstar
Fans didn’t take lightly to this exit. While some unconditionally believed that this is the end of the season for Vladdy and the Blue Jays, others spoke about holding the infielder back from the upcoming WBC.
