Aaron Judge is one of MLB’s best power hitters today. He has developed a strong, clean swing and is able to hit massive home runs that go the distance. Given his 6’7” frame and a bulky build, it’s not surprising that Judge’s hitting can pack a punch. But the New York Yankees captain is also a skillful batter and shows his agility when running between the bases.

But to some, Judge is not the Yankees’ most powerful batter. In fact, the Yankees’ hitting coach picked another Yankees hitter over Judge, despite the latter having hit 62 homers in 2022.

Aaron Judge had his best season in 2022, hitting 62 home runs and setting the single-season AL home run record. But most recently, New York Yankees’ hitting coach Dillon Lawson said that Giancarlo Stanton is better than Judge at hitting. He said that Stanton has more bat speed than Judge and could hit 60 home runs as well. Lawson opened up on the two while speaking with the New York Post’s Mark W. Sanchez.

According to the New York Post, Lawson said, “I think that if he stays healthy and Judge stays healthy, you’re looking at potentially 100 home runs between them. Giancarlo has a skill set that is unmatched. Even with Judge, Big G actually has a little bit more bat speed than someone who just hit 60-plus home runs and is obviously capable of doing that [himself].”

This is a huge claim, considering that Stanton has struggled to stay healthy over the last few seasons. Just last year, he struggled for form due to injuries. Although he started the season well, injuries left him in bad shape. He and Judge are both healthy during Spring Training and will form a lethal duo in the Yankees’ lineup. Judge, in particular, will be aiming for a big season.

Will Judge repeat his 2022 form in 2023?

Experts have predicted that Aaron Judge will have a down year from 2022. He will have a good season, but it will not match up to the 62 home runs he smashed. But he will be in the first year of his newly signed $360 million contract and looking to perform well.
