The Diamondbacks just averted an injury concern with their last year’s debacle that came back haunting! In 2024, the D-Backs missed the playoffs despite having an 89-73 record, and that too losing in a tiebreaker against the Mets and Braves. Health issues kept the D-Backs from being at full strength for most of the 2024 season, but now that their star outfielder Corbin Carroll has averted the injury scare, fans can breathe a sigh of relief. However, with Carroll reportedly being fine and he is back again to training, how are the Diamondbacks going to deal in case of any further injuries?
Carroll made their debut in 2022, and it’s his third year with the Diamondbacks, but these three years witnessed Carroll getting crowned as All-Star, All-MLB First Team, NL Rookie of the Year, and 2x NL Triples Leader. Well, that’s one heck of a banger start taken by Corbin Carroll. He ended 2024 with 22 HRs and 74 RBIs, along with offering reliability at the centerfield. Nothing more can be expected by the team from a rookie. Although the Diamondbacks got Lourdes Gurriel Jr., Jake McCarthy, and Alek Thomas in the outfield, no one boasts the same numbers as Carroll.

“Corbin Carroll was hit on the hand between the forefinger and middle finger during this bullpen session. He didn’t continue swinging after this,” Diamondbacks insider DBacks Dispatch reported. With any of these fingers getting badly injured, the Diamondbacks would have lost their projected 30+ HRs guy. Too good to lose for the team; after all, Carroll injured his shoulder while hitting a home run and later underwent season-ending shoulder surgery in 2021 that cost his then-minor league team, the Hillsboro Hops, their title. That’s the kind of influence Carroll boasts in his team.

D-Backs are all set to shine with Corbin Carroll
Now that the injury scare is gone, the Diamondbacks are all set to shine this year with Corbin Carroll. Expectations were high last year for the D-Backs following a surprising run to the World Series in 2023, where they had to watch the Rangers celebrate their championship. This offseason, the team has its highs and lows. While they have acquired Josh Naylor to strengthen their base but ended up losing major hitters like Christian Walker and Joc Pederson. The dent caused by these losses is yet to be recovered, and still, the main gap area for the Diamondbacks is their offense.
Reportedly, the Diamondbacks are considering fielding Carroll on right field only instead of bouncing between centerfield and right field. This may enhance his numbers this year considering he hit just .207 with an OPS of .612 over 78 games as a centerfielder, and as a right fielder, he hit vastly better with a .256 and an OPS of .886. Hence, the stage is all set for Carroll this year to exceed the projections and not let his team gasp similar to last year. While it will be an uphill task for the Diamondbacks to get over the Dodgers in the NL West, a contending team is all that the fans are expecting.
